I've been coming to this restaurant ever since a uni buddy from Hong Kong recommended it. The food is awesome, great yum char, fantastic selection, and service is decent too. I brought my folks over when they were visiting and they loved it too.

I've been here with family and friends many times for yum cha and highly recommend it. The food is excellent, it is well priced, and the staff are friendly.

The Golden Harvest is a very nice restaurant in the heart of Dunedin, with great food, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. We went there many times already and always enjoy their Asian food. We highly recommend their dim sum, which offers many different choices. We have travelled all over Asia and to us the Golden Harvest always reminds us of our trips.

I've been to Golden Harvest Restaurant many times now over the years with family and friends. Selection is great and I can see they are putting in a lot of effort to introduce new dishes from time to time to offer something new, something different in the local Chinese dining scene (the menu comes with organized description and photo which helps a lot for deciding which dishes to choose). Both lunch and dinner are consistently served to good standard. And contrary to some of the comments before this, I actually find the service team quite friendly to be honest. The sight of many returning regulars (including ourselves!) speaks for itself. If you are looking for authentic Chinese food in town where you can sit comfortably in a nice oriental atmosphere, I'd highly recommend Golden Harvest Restaurant.

Came here with 2 friends for dinner two nights ago. Based on staff recommendation, we ordered Deep Fried Spicy & Crispy Chicken Pieces, Steamed Prawns with Garlic & Vermicelli, Steamed Whole Blue Cod in Soya Sauce and Stirfry Veges. The food was fantastic and the staff were really friendly. We decided to come back the second time yesterday to try the yum cha for lunch - which was very good as well. Overall a pleasant experience.

We went there last week (while travelling NZ) due to a recommendation from locals saying it was an institution in Dunedin - worst decision we made while in NZ! I've been around Chinese and Asian food all my life; the menu showed great promise and included some typical family dishes rarely ever found on a menu. Only 1 dish, an entree of squid actually met the menu description. The other entree of spring rolls was over cooked in old oil judging by the colour and taste. The main I had was supposed to be based on pork belly - it was bacon, obviously bacon. Bacon is a pork belly product but the waitress took me for an idiot and tried to tell me that it was specially cured pork belly- it was barely edible. My wife's Crispy Skin Chicken was served cold, the dish of Chinese vegetables in garlic was bitter - indicating that the garlic had been burnt. We only drank one beer each and had a pot of Pu Erh tea. The only dish we finished was the squid entree, the rest were unfinished as they were not worth bothering with. I deliberately paid the bill (approx. $95) prior to making a complaint, I was given the poor excuse that we're under staffed tonight. If you're under staffed then don't accept more diners, simple! Don't waste your hard earned money at this place, it is simply not worth it. To use report card parlance - shows much promise, can and must do better.

they do a good student deal where you get bubble tea and a main for $16. Service is not amazing, but the food tastes great.

We went on a really busy night and the staff (while a lot of them) didn't seem to be enjoying themself at all. The food took ages, came to our table at different times (there was 8 of us) and in the end they ran out of quite a bit off the menu. We haven't and wouldn't go back again BUT we may have just struck them at a bad time and it was 2009.

Good yum-cha food but terrible service toppled with over-priced food.
