14th January 2013 Now moved to Hagley St Porirua.
Went for the first time Jan 12 - Saturday lunch.
What a great surprise !
I rate this Chinese restaurant as equally the best food, the best decor and furniture, the easiest to park, equally best service, and probably the best value in terms of $$$ for quality food. Very reasonable prices. They even have a very cheap lunch menu if you like - similar prices to a cheap takeaway.
This is really a QUALITY restaurant. No hesitation recommending.

19th February 2012 I have been to Top Taste several times, and we had our 2011 end of year work lunch there, they had no trouble catering for 45 people, we had preordered from their vast menu so as soon as we arrived our food was served promptly. The staff was helpful and friendly and the food was delicious.. I can recommend it for dinner for two or large groups.

22nd August 2011 Worst meal ever!! Service was very poor, the meals took far too long to come out and when they did eventually come out it still took 5mins between each persons main to get served. As we were all sharing plates most of it was cold when all the mains were served.
Top taste chicken was way too dry and the orange steak was just soy sauce (far too salty) I Would not recommend this place to anyone.

23rd January 2011 Three of us dined here last night, sampling four entrees and three mains. Every item we tasted was delicious. Really - the food was great.
Immediately, the originality and variety of menu items was striking - not the way-too-typical, bland, lowest-common-denominator thing. Top Taste's menu included a good variety of ingredients and methods, and several novel dishes. With descriptions so explicit, narrowing down our choices became a lengthy and fun process.
For me, the big find was the Cream Cheese Dumplings. These are what the Americans call "Crab Rangoon" - a wonton stuffed with cream cheese, crab (surimi, here) and chopped spring onion, deep-fried to a delicate crispness. Health food! Must also mention - their steamed pork dumplings were the meatiest ever, and loaded with flavour. All three mains - a stir-fry, a sizzling platter and a duck curry - were big hits.
The two young women serving us were friendly, attentive and professional.
There was one major flaw.
No matter what the cuisine, where steamed rice is a key part of a particular dish, a portion should be included in the price. Charging extra for rice with a curry or stir fry is like charging extra for the spaghetti under your bolognese sauce, or for the rice with your Beef Stroganoff. These charges are becoming more and more common, and substantial, in Chinese, Thai and Indian restaurants. Fortunately, most places still don't charge extra, and some even make a point of declaring that they don't. Good on 'em.
If there's a charge for rice with a curry or stir-fry, I usually vote with my feet, politely telling the manager why on my way out.
Last night, we had already ordered before we remembered to ask about rice. I was disappointed to learn it was not included with any of our three mains - not one of which would normally be consumed without rice.
Top Taste had the highest prices I've ever seen for steamed rice. $3 for a tiny bowl - perhaps one cup full. That's $3 for 20 cents worth of rice and near-zero cooking effort or skill (biff rice in an automatic rice cooker with some water). The "medium" bowl cost $7.50 - perhaps 80 cents worth of ingredients? And yes, there was a large bowl on offer, costing $11. $11 will buy you nearly 4kg of rice - enough to make SEVENTY cups, cooked. I hope that large bowl is very large indeed..
Being charged several dollars for a few cents worth of rice to accompany a $26 bowl of curry leaves me feeling victimized and insulted. As excellent as the meal and service were, I'll not be returning - unless it's for a guilty takeaway order of cream-cheese dumplings.

20th August 2009 I just tried ringing these guys to make a booking for 15 people, the phone rang for about 4-5 mins and they picked up and hung up on me as if annoyed that i wanted their service!

21st April 2008 Great Food. pity about the customer service, waiter tipped a whole bottle of wine on us we had brought and replaced with a cheap & nasty, we felt like they wanted us out of the restaurant before closing time. Other than that it was great food.
