Wellesley provides the platform from which to launch your son's life.
At Wellesley, our goal is to inspire boys to be the best they can be. Wellesley promotes intellectual curiosity and creativity, giving children confidence to step up and out of their comfort zone.
Our school is blessed with a stunning environment and a proud history, but our future lies in our ability to embrace the new - by encouraging fresh thinking, supporting the individual and being open to the ideas and opportunities that lie ahead. Wellesley is a full independent primary day school for boys from Year 0 (aged five) to Year 8. We have a long history as a regional Wellington school, serving not only Eastbourne families but all of Wellington. Our boys progress to a range of state and independent secondary schools.
Set between the bush and the sea in Days Bay in Eastbourne, Wellesley is a half-hour drive from central Wellington. The school grounds offer large playing spaces and state-of-the-art facilities. To retain our family atmosphere, the roll is intentionally kept at around 300 boys. The average class size is 23 students, although Years 1-4 classes are smaller. With our six resource teaching staff, the actual teacher/pupil ratio is 1:15. We are also fortunate to have a fulltime librarian and four teacher support staff.
Our staff have an excellent understanding of children and of how boys, in particular, learn best. Every boy is different, and that is something we recognise, support and celebrate. As an Anglican Diocesan school, we promote core Christian values. Other religious beliefs are also respected at Wellesley, and there is a healthy sharing of ideas within the school's curriculum.
