14th January 2014 I find this a strange body. It clearly is managed by representives from the affluent business end of society. As such it would seem to have an interest in returning governments of the right. The current extremely optimistic predictions being offered in an election year are problematical in the sense that is this rigorous research or just the result of questionaires and opinion from a group with a very significant vested interest in a particular political outcome. I believe we have previously seen industry pretending to be optimistic in an election year for dubious purpose. Also in view of the significant skewing effect of the Christchurh rebuild surely an impartial review of NZ`s real economic health should exclude any effect of the earthquake - I realise mention is made of the earthquake but please provide clear detail in your predictions so that that extra activity is not seriously misleading the public.
I would regard economic research by universities a much more soundly based source than that produced by the NZ Institute of Economic Reseach
Feelgood predictions of employment and wage rises etc are just that. It can be easy to construe broad and less than scientifically gathered data any whichway
