10th June 2014 I would never book a holiday with House of Travel ever again. I had booked a holiday with them, and the Te Awamutu travel consultant had booked us into a Australian hotel that was going through MAJOR RENOVATIONS and we didn't discover this until we arrived at the hotel in Melbourne Australia. The room we were given was dark, dirty, smelt strongly of damp, carpets had stains on them, paint worn off on doors etc. Highly disgusted & horrified that we were put in such a room, we immediately complained to the hotel duty manager & insisted we be moved to another room.
When being moved to another room , which was partly renovated, it became obviously clear that major renovations were going on at the hotel. Tradesmen with work tools on the floors, plastic sheeting covering parts of the floor we were placed on. We had to endure this situation for 7 days!!!
When we got back to nz, I immediately emailed the CEO of the hotel and complained. I also complained to Te Awamutu HOUSE OF TRAVEL, asking why we had not been informed that the hotel was doing major renovations. The travel consultant was indifferent & uninterested.
A few days later I informed them that due to my complaint to the CEO of the hotel, that we were getting our FULL Accomodation costs refunded.
We then became embroiled in a 3 month arguement with TE Awamutu HOUSE OF TRAVEL as they refused to refund our Full Refund, even though I had forwarded the hotels CEO email to them. The owner of the Te Awamutu House of Travel & Hamilton House of Travel got involved and she was extremely unprofessional, obnoxious & purposely arguing and making excuses then refusing to give back our refund. I then complained to several travel agent advisory boards . Due to this we then got back our refund 4 MONTHS LATER!!! I will NEVER book a Trip with HOUSE OF TRAVEL ever again!!!
