Established in 1963 Tony's Wellesley Street is Auckland's oldest surviving restaurant. For well over 40 years, Tony's has been serving hearty portions of good kiwi tucker, specialising in steak and seafood along with many other inviting options.
The atmosphere is reminiscent of an old English pub, cosy and inviting. Many have commented over the years that Tony's has never changed, and they'd be right. The meals are made from the best quality food we can source, and the food is prepared by expert chefs who have been with us for years. The only things that have changed over the years is the carpet (sometime in the 70's) and the staff!
Tony's Wellesley St is perfectly located for a quick weekday lunch or a bite to eat after work of before heading off to the surrounding theatres, movies or local bars. Tony's is also located within walking distance of many major city hotels.
Bookings are recommended.

Tony's suits me fine. It's old (so am I) and reassuringly trustworthy. (Does what it says on the label) Not a place to 'hang out' or to see the 'A-listers'. Just a damn fine restaurant that offers good value for money. The steaks are classic- seafood & pasta dishes - all completely 'retro'. When I go to Tony's I feel that tiny frisson...a reminder of how it feld to 'go out to dinner' to 'have a night on the town'. I like the woody decor, the friendliness, the decently filled plates. And those desserts bring out the child in me.

This restuarant is similar to Lord Nelson's on Victoria street. Slightly different things on the menu which is good!! The buffalo wings are very spicey and will enjoy if you like it spicey. Had lovely yummy food there for my birthday and resonable pricing.

It's been around forever! Yet, it is still one of our favourites when we're in town. The food, service and atmosphere are second-to-none and I have yet to come away disappointed (except, of course, if we forget to book and can't get a table when we arrive unexpectedly!) It has kept its original emphasis and doesn't try to compete with the newer "trendy" restaurants. It just concentrates on great "Tony's" food and service!

We had booked a table for two for 7.30pm but unfortunately it took a while to find a park so we were 15mns late. There were people paying their bill when we arrived so we waited to the side. 4 other people entered after us and they were asked by the attending person if they had a reservation. They were seated before us and we had to wait yet again for another person to pay their bill. We were then asked to wait in the bar while our table became available. Once they took our order, we observed two other tables who arrived after us, receive their meals. It took 50 mins before we received ours. I ordered fillet mignon medium rare and my partner ordered scotch fillet with bernaise sauce - medium. His arrived bloody and had to be re-cooked. The mushrooms are not fresh but tinned, and if your spending $34 per main, you don't expect this as well as limp soggy cabbage unless you've ordered chinese. We spent $126.50 for two meals, garlic bread and a bottle of wine. The wine was the only good thing about the meal hence the half star. I'm not coming back nor will I be recommending this restaurant to anyone in the future.

Tonys is good value for money. Their steaks abosolutely divine and the friendly staff and wine list only adds to the experience. Have been there a few times now and will definitely go back.

I recently took the family there for a farewell dinner for overseas visitors. They were very impressed with the service, the meal and were surprised at the price! Very attentive service kept the excellent wine flowing and the layout of the venue allowed for your "own space" rather than feeling crowded in as you do in some other venues. The meal was excellent, cooked to perfection and we left with our appetite satisfied, fairly merry from the excellent wines and comfortable after the friendly service and great seating arrangements. Well done Tony's, you have the right formula!

Recently had a meal at Tony's on Wellesley after a show. Tonys has always been a favourite and hadn't been in a while. Yummm, was in steak heaven. The service was exceptional, hats off to the guy who seated us and the girl who waited on us, had the right combination of leaving us alone, and making sure we had all we wanted. It is always so enjoyable eating at Tony's, will have to go again soon.

The best steak restaurant in Auckland, great service and gorgeous staff, awesome down to earth meaty goodness - recommend the T Bone or Pepper Steak, Shaslic Marinara also worth a look. Great place to go before a show at Aotea Centre or The Civic.

If you're after meat, look no further! This is _the_ steak restaurant! The T-Bone is a must-have. Meat and Beer? What could be better?!
