Redjacks arrived on the westcoast (via hokitika) by ship in the mid 1860's.
Legend says, lured by tall stories of gold, feet again on solid ground and led by an adventurous spirit, he decided to forgo the sea for a gold mining life. After a few weeks of enjoying the boisterous and entertaining hokitika, he headed north into greymouth. After a short time to enjoy the good life there, redjacks moved into the grey valley. After a couple of attempts at gold throughout this journey he arrived at the valley near ngahere where he discovered what turned out to be very payable gold.
A boom town soon developed and many amusing stories abound, including the legend of redjacks 'still'. This town and district was (and is) known as redjacks.
Redjacks meals are prepared by our expert chef and offer a variety of flavours to suit all discerning diners. We have incorporated a new zealand flavour with dishes including venison, beef, lamb, eel, salmon, & mussels. Along with some ethnic and european flavours in the asian style duck, thai chilli garlic prawns, risotto, tapas, platters and salads. And of course, sourced from west coast produce wherever possible.

The brewer
Redjacks have a guy who puts these things together (with a little help from his friends), a strange imagination and, from time to time, a few hangovers, been at it now for around 14 years, from brewing beer to distilling spirits and just generally mixing things up. Tried them out on a lot of people, must have got most of it right, they're still alive and still smiling. Best try them yourself, sure to be something to suit and start the smile.
