Maranui Cafe, part of the Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club at Lyall Bay, captures the look and feel of friendly beachside cafes and family holidays of a bygone era.

The Menu continues this theme encompassing "Surf Snacks" of toasties, fries and steamed mussels, a "Kiddies Kai" menu of pancakes and bolied egg and soldiers, among other items.

Those with a larger appetite will want to try the "Cooked Beach Breakfast". Available from 7am to 3pm, it features such favourites as avocado on toast, baked beans, pancakes and eggs benedict.

The Maranui Cafe has something for all budgets as well as all appetites with offerings ranging from $6 to $20.

Nice views. Been here a couple of times over the months, had a pretty nice big breakfast, black pudding, hollandaise, was quite nice so came back for lunch. Had the lamb fillet with peas, potato and fennel. Lamb was very well done and sliced into 1/2cm slices and sat on kinda a potato and pea soup?! Real average. Would go back for breaky but haven't ventured back for lunch, not worth the 45 minute wait on the queue up the stairs!!!!!

It's busy and still best food and service, gorgous sea view and cool enviroment. Wish we had such a cafe in Auckland

Hi, I've been to Cafe Maranui in Lyall bay and the service is really good as the people are really friendly and they do care about the customers. Me and my friend had to wait in a queue to get in and it was a super busy time for them and when finally we got a table a friendly staff member came and took out orders. We had to wait for a while until food was served, and it didn't matter much as the waitress came to us few times and offered us coffee and from her facial expressions we could see that she hasn't just forgotten about our order but she was also concerned about the food being delayed and she went few times to check on that. We didn't mind the wait as finally when the food was served it proved to be one of the nicest brunches I've ever had in Wellington. I ordered egg benedicts on toast with salmon while my friend ordered the same dish with ham. The food was yummy and was quite filling. I so badly wanted to know how they made that sauce which was poured over the eggs as it made all the difference. I would recommend Cafe Maranui as one of the best cafes in Wellingotn and I will be going there again eventhough it's in Lyall bay and needs to drive up there. And the queue to get into the cafe is proof f how much people love the food there that they don't even mind waiting to get in.

Best big breakfast I have had in Wellington!! The vege option comes with mushrooms, tomatoes, pesto, potatoes, spinach, and of course eggs and toast! Massive meal for a great price! Have also had a few salads and a quesadilla from there. Always a good meal and great service!

Maranui has just opened again after being renovated after a fire that destroyed the inside... While they were closed it left as big hole in the Wellington brunch scene... The restaurant itself is located at Lyall Bay overlooking the wild waves and surfers who are brave enough to venture out in it and the inside is an eclectic blend of 1950's chrome stemmed furniture and old surf memorabilia. The atmosphere is loud and upbeat usually with some good old kiwi dub playing on the stereo. The menu is a blend of the traditional bacon and eggs through to tasty quesadillas, smoked salmon bagels and excellent eggs benedict. The coffees are great and milkshakes are even better.. they are served in the old fashioned metal shakers so stay extra cold! For the sweet tooth there is also a case of tasty cakes and treats if your main isn't enough to satisfy. Staff are friendly and as its busy you have to be prepared to wait a few minutes for a table but its well worth it. Prices are really reasonable approximately $8 - $20 Great food, great atmosphere and great view. I can't go past Maranui for a Saturday or Sunday brunch.
