Monsoon Poon (love you long time) aka The Consistent One. A minor change to the combo platter (39) with coriander and corn fritters replacing the curry puffs (damn it - those were one of our top 18 tastes). I thought these were a bit chewy for a fritter but minor complaint only. The platter also includes S&P squid, crispy chicken wings, vietnamese rolls, tandoori chicken, Indian veggie balls (and oddly some off cuts of flaky pastry which I don't understand, that have no flavor but which my husband eats anyway). By the time we share this platter we can only fit in one main to share. We had the Singapore noodles and a garlic and onion naan. MP has an excellent wine menu but we had cocktails on Friday, can't rave about these unfortunately. I think the recipe for the tuktuk has changed because the mint is not crushed into the drink it's just chucked in on top now and didn't find any of the others startling, will stick to wines or soft drinks from here on in. Continue to highly recommend MP, we travel from Rotorua and have taken many friends and will continue to do so. Amazing that our favorite restaurant is 2 1/2 hours from home!

Yuk, yuk, yuk, what a disgusting meal! Where to start....? Ok, plate by plate however first up, food was being served to our table something like 3 minutes after we placed our order. Come on chef not even the illusion of being cooked to order? Our first dish was a chicken wing dish, something about them being fiery. The chicken had been cooked for something like a week. It was all crispy and dry with no meat. Nothing fiery about it, guess they tried some heat with some insipid dipping sauce served with the wings. Next was the peppered squid. Deep fried rubbish. Bad pub grub maybe but nothing more with no flavour at all. Followed this with the worst dish of all, Crab Cups which is tinned crab meat to be eaten in lettuce leaf cups. The crab meat was disgusting, I feel like throwing up as I type this, the memory of this rancid dish repeating on me. I love crab but that muck they served was an insult to crabs! Last dish was a Prawn Curry which had a bit of flavour, zero fire even though this was promised however the fact the consistency was like a dish that had been sitting around for 3 or 4 hours under a heat lamp was wrong, wrong, wrong. The fact all the food was served in 3 minutes meant there was nothing fresh, that the food had been sitting around for hours and that microwaves out the back were getting a huge workout. McDonalds has fresher food! Place is a joke and an insult to Asian cuisine. Anyone who has any clue about the flavours of Asia will not want to visit this dump! There are so many proper restaurants around that serve proper Asian food. This place is at best serving bad pub deep fried rubbish.

Took friends here on friday night. We were seated immediately in one of the booths which was fabulous as we were sharing a photo album. We ordered cocktails and a bottle of wine and despite the fact that we took over 45 minutes to place an order for our entree and the place was thumping staff left us alone to talk. Last years master chef winner sat next to us at a long table and received the exact same a Service as the rest of us - excellent. Combo platter is the best starter EVAH and gave us a wonderful sampling of an assortment of dishes. Can recommend the butter chicken, the lamb and the firecracker (only for chili hot hot hot lovers) but the garlic naan is supreme as is the lims fried rice. We did not look at the dessert menu but from memory its pretty ordinary and small servings. Mains are decent sized and the price is good. If you are going to splash out and have an exceptional wine get the dolmaine gewurtztraminer. This is a great night out.

Great atmosphere and buzz, friendly staff. Food was decent, but I would recommend Monsoon Poon for groups and people looking for a fun, casual dinner.

Great food and the most amazing cocktails. The bartender was great, however we had an unfortunate incident where the waitress spilt our delicious cocktail over the table, then tried to charge us for the free 'round' we were offered after this. Otherwise was a great experience.

The goodness of this restaurant came as a surprise to us. Having thought that Monsoon Poon was just another over-priced restaurant with mediocre food, how absolutely happy we were not learn that it is the complete opposite. Such a gorgeous decor, very good food, very nice staff and a general happy ambience made it a fabulous dining experience. I was particularly happy about the selection of South East Asian dishes. Coming from Indonesia, I was most pleased to feel almost at home when I tasted the S.E.A. dishes.. This was a few months ago and we are now regular patrons there! I am a fan!!

My friend and I arrived out of the raging storm last Saturday night to be welcomed by the warm and inviting atmosphere of Monsoon Poon. We had such a great evening here and everything was almost faultless! The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. I especially recommend the Sago Pudding to anyone lucky enough to dine at Monsoon! Fantastic and look forward to coming back soon!!

I love this place it has a full and vibrant atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the food was divine. It was well put together and it had all sorts of dishes that catered to all sorts of people. Spicy for the daring and mild for the people who still require there taste buds. All in all Monsoon Poon is a fantastic restaurant and deserves all the hype that it can get. Head on over to this magnificent little wonder and eat your heart out.

We tried Monsoon Poon on a reccommendation from a friend and loved it! The restaurant itself is very plush inside and feels comfortable and authentic. I am vegetarian and really enjoyed the spring rolls and main curry course. The portions were a good size and we left feeling full and happy. Also good range of drinks, including cocktails. Yum!!

Monsoon Poon is a great restaurant when you measure it by the experience. Big ticks for parking - it's under the city car park. Big ticks for atmosphere - there's a real buzz here, it seems full most of the time and the mix of bar and dining areas work well. Big ticks for staff - they are attentive and work the room well, you never feel like you ever wait for a food or drink order. Big ticks for the menu - the food is pan Asian. I love it for the choice, some might like a restaurant to stick to one style and do it well - I liked Monsoon Poon because I could have a Malaysian style Roti (yum) with an Indonesian curry (Beef Rendang, the best I've ever had) with Chinese style Peking Duck salad. I'd recommend going as a group versus a couple as the buzz and the food selection suit a group better.

Love the place.. the food and the mango/coconut shakes are always good but for me what lets the side down is the inability to book for smallish groups (4-6). I understand the desire to have 1st in 1st served but surely they would do more covers with bookings as well as walk ins??

I had Monsoon Poon's 'Bang Bang Chicken' recommended to me a while ago. Well I finally made it... It is as hot as they say. Now when I order thai food, I usually ask for it to be 'hot like fire'. But Bang Bang is something else, I could see the patrons at the other tables cringing as the dish was brought past them. I was pleased I had a supply of Beer (Chang of course), and a bunch of napkins on hand. It is easily the spiciest dish I have had in a restaurant, and I make a point of looking for the hottest meal I can find. But damn it was good, I will be going back!
