Whanganui DRC provides FREE Supported Employment, Disability Information, Equipment Hire and Sales and Advocacy Services to people with disabilities and their support networks.
The Supported Employment Service is an inclusive service with no exclusions or screening of clients on the basis of perceived "severity" of disability. Clients may self-refer or be referred by other service providers. They may be formally diagnosed or self diagnose. The Service supports clients to plan for the employment outcomes they desire with no requirement for "getting ready" activities or training. Support services and strategies are not time limited and are tailored to meet the individual's need. Our Service is integrated with other agencies to achieve the client's employment objectives and we support clients in placements that reflect their goals, aspirations and support needs. Our staff have a "whatever it takes" approach to working with our clients and our process offers support through career planning and job searching as well as ongoing support to the employee and employer for as long as necessary.
Our Disability Information Service provides an advisory service to anyone requiring information and assistance. Our objective is to provide an impartial information and referral service through generic information provision. We support disabled people, their family/whanau, other service providers and the general public to find the information they require. Topics we provide information on can include disabilities and disability awareness; services; agencies; access in the home and community; benefits; legislation; mobility; health; employment; leisure and recreation; educational and vocational programmes; aids, equipment and furniture and home care services. We also have access to the National Disability Information Service ENABLE NZ in Palmerston North.
We also offer FREE computer access to the WEKA web site (What Everybody Keeps Asking about Disability information) the gat
