After extensive consultation, Textiles New Zealand was created in 2003. Its very existence recognises that a new industry development organisation concept is needed for the textiles industry to achieve its potential. New Zealand .. New Thinking.
Four contributing sectors make up the combined New Zealand textiles industry: Textiles, Carpet, Footwear, Apparel. Together they comprise the whole textiles industry. Some may think there are few common issues but in reality there are more underlying similarities than differences.
Our founding document, The Way Ahead strategy, put it simply:
"Greater collective action is required to transform the industry's global competitiveness"
That's where Textiles New Zealand plays its part. By facilitating ways and means for individual companies to co-operate to compete in world markets. To strengthen and grow, together.
Its mandate is to act in facilitating collective programmes to achieve results which benefit the whole industry. Much of our major work is almost invisible, like our relationship to government, where we work in a positive partnership so that the textiles industry's issues are understood at the highest levels.
We've made a solid start towards ambitious targets. The government supports our goals with funding to facilitate agreed industry-wide or sector-wide programmes. There are opportunities and threats ahead, but by working collaboratively we can play to our strengths and succeed as an industry. In partnership.
