SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited (formerly SKYCITY Limited) began operations in 1996 when the company was established as owner of the SKYCITY Auckland gaming and entertainment complex in
New Zealand, which includes the world-renowned Sky Tower.
In 1998 SKYCITY took over the operation of the casinos within the complex from the original gaming operator, and under its direction and
ownership the property has delivered significant growth in revenue, profits and returns to shareholders.
Following the successful consolidation of the business at its key property in Auckland, SKYCITY acquired the Adelaide Casino in South Australia (now SKYCITY Adelaide) in June 2000, a move that signaled the company's transition from a single-site business to an Australasian gaming and entertainment business.
The company's growth continued with the opening of SKYCITY Queenstown Casino in New Zealand's premier alpine tourism resort in December 2000. In March 2001 SKYCITY acquired a 50.2 per cent interest in Force Corporation Limited, a cinema entertainment company based in Auckland (later renamed SKYCITY Leisure).
Reflecting this growth, the SKYCITY Limited company name was relaunched in September 2001 as SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited. One year later SKYCITY celebrated the opening of its fourth property, SKYCITY Hamilton.
SKYCITY Auckland opened the five-star, 316 room Grand Hotel in April 2005.
The key to SKYCITY's continued growth and success has been ensuring engaging experiences for its customers by providing excellent service and offering quality products that are enjoyed by a broad range of local and overseas visitors.
The SKYCITY vision - to create fun and entertainment - together with its stated objective of being New Zealand's most popular entertainment and leisure destination, combine in a philosophy that is intrinsic to all its operations.
