Top notch Japanese Teppan Yaki bar. Come here every year for family birthdays, a favourite in our house! The pork wrapped prawns & chicken thighs are tender and delicious, highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to find a regular hangout or for a special occasion. You will not be disappointed in the food, that I promise!

This is one of my favorite hangouts. The beef tongue skewers are delicious :) and on the plus side they serve some of the best beer in the world. I would recommend Kirin ichiban to everyone. tasty. however be prepared to spend some money if you are planning to eat yourself full.

I lived in Japan for a while and this is the closest you will get to a typical yakitori bar in Auckland with respect to menu selection, interior and atmosphere. Small and cosy and good patronage. Menu keeps it very close to what you'd expect in your average japanese yakitori bar. Good nihonshuu(sake) and range of japanese beers and chu his (those fruity cocktails). When my japan fever kicks in, there's no other place that's a better cure.

Yum yum yum... No other words for these skewers. But it's not only the skewers that are really good at Ken Yakitori. Do give the beef tataki and crispy chicken skin a try as you will be pleasantly surprised!!! Do prepare for a buzz though, as the place is quite small and it does get really busy for dinner.

The candid atmosphere of this small bar will catch you by surprise. Once your eyes adjust to the dim lighting and you've taken a seat amid the bamboo and wooden surronds, the sushi chefs making their sizzling dishes are a delight to watch as you sit perched at the bar. Ideal for a small group or duo the food lives up to the atmosphere of this cosy place. We had about 5 different 'small plates' of fish and chicken based dishes along with a sake and Japanese beer. All this just cost us around $25 each and was definitely value for money. I would go there once again and recommend you do too.

From outside, may seem just another little shop, once uou stepped in ... Voila! It's a really cool and chic place to hang-out with friends for something light and delicious! A lot of Auckland Uni students hang-out here as well. Personally, I love the Lamb skewer and Karage chicken ... but they have heaps of variety to choose!

I take my hat off to the people behind Ken Bar. Many moons back they introduced a completely new kind of food - not just Japanese, but Japanese BBQ on skewers. Damn gutsy! It's not easy to break new ground, but in my mind they totally smashed it! Just last night my Japanese housemate and I were discussing how popular Sushi Trains are in both Japan and Asia, but despite numerous attempts in Auckland, only one remains in the Viaduct. So kudos to Ken Bar and its multiple branches - they are the original and still one of the very best. If you are a newbie, do your tastebuds a favour, and check them out on K Road or Anzac Ave.

Very cozy place, been here several times. It's good to go with a group or just by yourself. The food is great, there are too many favourites to choose from.

One of the best Japanese restaurant I've been too in a while. Yes it is quite small downstairs but I feel that helps create the great atmosphere. The karage chicken and tofu with teriyaki sauce were really good (we got another order of both. I recommend you check it out

If you want to find out what real Japanese people will have after hard work – this is the place to go! Order a miso dip to have with the free bowl of cabbage to have with your yakitori and sake. You have to book on the weekend nights /seats are not the most comfortable, the place is quite small and the bathroom is not the best but still it guarantees a fun night out with friends.

Nice setting. Good food especially the karage chicken (deep fried chicken). But overpriced for some of the menu items. Good place to hang out with friends over a casual dinner. =)

I have had the pleasure of a eating at Ken's on two occasions. On both occasions I found the food to be excellent:- succulent, tasty and addictive. Obvious care is taken in food preparation, cooking and presentation - the mark of an establishment passionate about their food. The waiting staff are polite, friendly and speak just enough English to take your order while feeding the illusion you're in a foreign land. Ken is a great place for a great night out - whether you're with a collection of friends or trying to impress your better half. Thoroughly recommended.

This is my favorite place to eat in the city. I come here as often as possible. The food (while exotic) is terrific and the staff are all very friendly. I cannot recommend Ken's highly enough.
