11th February 2022 I contacted Matt, the general manager of this company, to get a quote to remove some rust that had accumulated on an 8 meter exterior steel beam and to apply rust prevention and paint that would prevent rust for he foreseeable future. The beam was not in bad shape but it was an eyesore and I wanted it to be fixed for aesthetic reasons. He came and quoted $8,250 plus GST, which I declined. He then came back with a cheaper version costing $3500 plus GST. We settled on $3000 plus GST. In the quote, Matt explained the work that would be done and justified the costs by telling me that the job would take 3 workers a full day (24 man hours). They came to my place at 11:00 AM, having been to another job previously, and left at just before 3:00, for a total of 12 man hours. The job they did was great and they were very professional BUT clearly MAtt was unable to cost the job appropriately. After explaining this to him, and telling him that I felt ripped off, he came back with a lot of stuff about what might have been and how the possibility of wind or humidity or scaffolding (what?? this was a beam above the deck on the lower level of my house...why would you need scaffolding?) would have increased the cost and how lucky everyone was that the weather was good and the job cold be completed so quickly. The price is the price...even thought the time was half what he quoted. If you give this company a job, make sure that you get a quote specifying how long the job is expected to take, what the hourly wage is and what kind of complications there might be that would increase the cost. As consumers without any specialised knowledge we have to trust tradies to be fair and honest. My opinion is that Matt is neither of these.
