CATERING SERVICES


Indeed, such aesthetic surroundings provide a fitting memorial to a loved one.In 1889, the Anglican Church established Purewa Cemetery through a gift of land. The cemetery still remains one of the Anglican Church's most important assets.The tranquil surroundings of this 45 acre cemetery are now administered by the Purewa Cemetery Trust Board. Purewa is a testament to our city's more recent past.


Memorials


COLUMBARIUM/NICHE WALLS


Our Columbarium/Niche Walls are a feature of this recently designed, tranquil area. Each niche accomodates two urns of ashes and is sealed with a polished granite plaque, which is sold in addition to the niche. Once the family has decided on the inscription to mark the passing of their loved one, the plaque can be given to a monumental mason for lettering.


ASHES MEMORIAL WALL


The Memorial Wall is available for plaques only, size 200mm x 70mm. Families may have scattered their loved ones ashes or placed them at an alternative location. The Memorial Wall allows relatives and family the opportunity to pay their respects on an anniversary, birthday, Christmas, or other special occasion.


ALL SAINTS AND ALL SOULS CHAPELS


The All Saints Chapel has seating capacity for 208 people. By contrast, the All Souls Chapel has seating capacity for 56 people. For the larger funerals, there are covered areas outside both chapels that will allow standing room for up to 300 people and 50 people respectively. Large glass doors and windows at the rear of the chapels also allow mourners to view the service from outside.


PUREWA CREMATORIUM


The crematorium was first established in 1957. Purewa was the second such facility to provide cremation services in Auckland.Following the service of your choice, the casket can be lowered to the committal position, allowing mourners to come forward and pay their last respects.


Mourners may wish to place a flower or petal on to the casket. Following the cremation process, your loved one's ashes will be held by the funeral director until you are ready for the next step. When you feel the time is right, your family can select a final resting place and memorial for your loved one's ashes within


Purewa's park-like surroundings.In the early 1980s, it became apparent that one chapel and one cremator could not cope with demand. In 1982, extensions were completed with a second cremator installed and the completion of a second chapel.


Wandering over the slopes and tree filled expanses, visitors will see the ranks of plaques and headstones that are monuments to some of the great and memorable personalities who are part of Auckland's history.


Our cemetery is maintained to the highest standard. Ongoing maintenance and upgrading procedures ensure that Purewa remains the premier cemetery in Auckland.


This cemetery is the final resting place for over 45,000 men, women and children, including many of Auckland's notable business and political leaders, clergy and V.C. holders. The cemetery is only a 15 minute drive from Auckland's central business district.
