Friendly staff, good food. Agree that the decor isn't particularly flashy, but if good, casual meal is what you are after, you can't go wrong.
26th July 2011 I can't comment in respect of the last reviewer's comments, as I haven't visited Simla for a couple of months. I always found the fare on offer exceptional, the prices very reasonable and the staff friendly, efficient and knowledgeable; for those reasons (combined with the fact that I lived nearby) I was a regular. I would venture that you'd be hard pressed to find a lamb madras as good at any other Indian restaurant in Auckland.

19th July 2011 Our experience at Simla Indian Cafe, Mt. Eden
Tables are very cold, the entire dinning area is expected be heated by a small white colour fan heater.
Food served is cold and salty.
Payment time. Barter Card - NO. Reason ownership has changed. ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO. Why havent you put any signage stating this - response we dont have to if you are regular customer you should know.
So here I am doing the job for them. Management has changed so has the food (for worse) and customer service has obtained a large attitude.
Comment - I am so disappointed with over all experience may not come again in-spite being regular. Response - Do not come again WE DO NOT NEED MORE CUSTOMERS.

25th August 2010 This place is a little gem when you consider the quality of the food and price point. Service was excellent and staff were warm and friendly. Pleasant decor but nothing flashy. Perfect for a casual meal for two or 4 people. This is definitely our new local for indian cuisine!!
