Ashburton's The Courier, founded in 1985, is Mid Canterbury's own community newspaper. It has an audited circulation of 12,558 and the latest media research shows it is the best read newspaper locally, beating both daily newspapers that circulate in the district. The Courier is delivered each Tuesday in Ashburton and Wednesday in rural areas from the Rakaia River in the north down to Geraldine in the south, mountains to the sea.
