Kevin Johnson Boat Builders Ltd, located in Devonport, has been in the boat building business for over 35 years. Kevin and his team of tradesmen pride themselves on the many successful craft produced at his yard, ranging in size from 10 to 60 feet.
Most of all Kevin enjoys working with wood and the majority of his boats are constructed in this material but now often with fibreglass inside and out, as called for in modern contruction methods. He builds powerboats, yachts, catamarans and sailing dinghies.
Kevin became a qualified tradesman in 1974 after serving an apprenticeship with John Gladden at Milford and he uses qualified tradesmen in his boatbuilding teams.
He is a former commodore of Devonport Yacht Club and a veteran of several Pacific and major coastal races. Kevin and his wife Sue, who runs the company office, are both still active and well-respected members.
For several years Kevin has been a Safety Inspector for Yachting New Zealand which speaks for the high regard in which he is held by the sailing community.
