22nd January 2008 Savour this secluded garden oasis, just minutes from the bustle of Newmarket's Broadway and a 5-minute drive from downtown Auckland. Looking for coffee, lunch or a quiet session on your laptop? Parking is free! Just $5 entry fee. Wireless Internet access is free too. Summer or winter, relax in the café or at the outdoor tables. No traffic noise or smell here. Do I sound enthusiastic about Eden Garden? I’m a volunteer there and I get stoked every week when I visit. There’s always colour, always something in bloom. An astonishing collection of vireyas, camellias, magnolias, hibiscus, hostas and bromeliads, all planted under an ever-changing canopy of native NZ plants and trees. Tuis abound in spring, filling the garden with their distinctive song as they feast on the cherry-blossom nectar. Don’t miss the garden’s lush tulip displays in the spring or its annual and perennial flowers in summer. Admire the vivid pink of Chinese Toon trees in spring and the autumn blush of Japanese maples as winter approaches. Stroll the pathways with family or friends, or plan a meeting or reception. It’s a super location for groups up to 60. Organize a garden tour with expert, knowledgeable guides. There are gifts and unique plant selections from the garden for sale at the Gatehouse.
