30th July 2012 Made a formal complaint to the owner regarding my experience at the cafe, to be told that the waitress is new nad 99% of the time she is good. I pointed out that I don't blame her at all, I blame the poor management and training.
I had to follow up with several emails over several weeks to get the answers I wanted, which in itself is appalling - considering I took the time to let them know about their shocking service standards.

8th July 2012 Went into Elevation today. I have been there three times previously and had solid experiences for its price category. Today I was extremely disappointed. Not sure what's going on here but felt like the place was under new management.
We had to wait to be seated which took a little too long - only to be given menus and told to sit where ever we liked. I would have liked to be escorted, given menus, given water, fussed over etc. (Particularly if this is now a 'restaurant' charging $20-30 a plate) During our visit the waiters were incredibly blind when we were waiting to be served.
The menu is different. Another 'cafe and restaurant' with an identity crisis. A number of Asian dishes now appear. Prices were all over the place. The menu was confusing and uninspiring, let alone falling apart.
Most dishes now appear in the $20-$30 range. $24 for a burger - must be one big and amazing burger! I was curious so ordered the burger - only to be told it wasn't available. There was a lot of commotion around the kitchen so we asked how long would food be served. I wasn't happy with the response. I was not in the mood for pizza and nothing else on the menu tickled my fancy, along with the bad service, so I left.
In summary, very confusing walking into 'cafe and restaurant' Elevation today. If you want to be a 'restaurant' charging $20-30 a plate, the service, feel and food (and stock levels!) has to look/resemble '$20-30 a plate'. It still feels like a cafe charging $10-20 a plate.
Maybe I was expecting the unpretentiousness and hearty cafe/pub style food I had previously enjoyed, which led to my disappointment. Not sure if I'll return in a hurry.

8th July 2012 Terrible service - or lack there of, none of the staff knew what they were doing and there was a very evident lack of communication. Took 35 minutes from the time of placing our order to be told that they had run out of burgers! We didn't even get our drinks we ordered, so from the time we arrived to 'walking out' was 50 minutes. Absolute shambles in the establishment, and coming from the hospitality and tourism industry myself - I am surprised this place is still in business!!!
If you want to have a great experience then avoid this place like the plague!

19th February 2012 Nice, sunny day in Auckland so thought this place would be perfect with the views. Which were awesome!! Sadly though the service wasn't - staff had no idea what each other was doing, no systems were in place, they didn't know the menu, staff dressed tacky and untidy, drink order (which you think would be easy) arrived after the third reminder. I would comment on the food but after waiting longer than an hour (on a fairly busy day but by no means out of control) we walked out.
Seems a tourist trap for people heading out to Piha.
Very sad and embarrassing that this so called Cafe is a part of Auckland.

26th January 2012 Two of us went for dinner, and while the view was great, and the food nice, the service and cleanliness were seriously lacking. For example, when a waitress dropped a pizza, she carried on and took another two tables orders before returning 10 minutes later to clean up the mess off the floor, and even then she missed the bits on a chair. Also, when our mains plates were cleared away there was no offer of "can I get you another drink, or would you like to see the dessert menu". After 10 minutes of waiting hopefully, but in vain, we decided to go. It could be fantastic if they could get the basics right. We won't be going back until we hear it's under new management.

29th December 2010 while the view was spectacular it was unfortunately not backed with good food or good service. I had made a booking for lunch and we were taken to our table by an unenthusiastic young man who seemed confused and unsure if the table with the reserved sign was ours or not. We were then accosted by the waitress who rather abruptly told us the table was reserved.
There appeared to be only one waitress on duty for a full cafe and it took over an hour for our meals to arrive after us watching two tables who had arrived after us be served their food. The service was truly abysmal. The food was under average and over priced. This is a real shame as we have previously had dinner here and it was lovely. This cafe has ensured that it would have no repeat business from my family and I (a total of six people).
Great spot with amazing views !! Good food and friendly service.
