9th February 2009 We call into Birdies evertime we are in the Far North. The cafe really looks after our family and the biggest problem we have with the place is trying to finish the generous sized meals. The review from Powelly looks almost like it could've been written by the competition. I found Birdies to be all about value and real food. I've eatin nachos from plenty of cafes served with sweet chilli sauce. Taste good doesnt it. I've eatin Birdies Nachos and they were great too. I think you'd find they are chilli beef nachos anyway. If you looking for a well priced no fuss meal, go there.
24th January 2011 The town only has a handful of cafes in the main street area however I've found Birdies to be the best in Kaitaia.
The food is generously proportioned with a fairly good overall selection considering the size of the town. I would definitely recommend to visitors to the area.

19th February 2008 There's not a lot of choice in this town, but do choose somewhere else. Unimaginative, limp and tasteless food, sloppily prepared (or defrosted?), weird sauces on the wrong dishes (try the Mexican nachos topped with Thai sweet chilli sauce!), stale deep-fryer oil, disinterested staff. And it's not even cheap by New Zealand standards. You really will not find worse than this one.
