4th December 2010 Kueerip shouldn't review cafes if he hasn't heard of the Gloria Jeans franchise. They did remarkably well in our review for a chain store: www.newplymouthcoffee.info
He/she is correct about the food however, we knocked marks off their total score for that. Before our reviews are written we make sure we visit the cafes in question several (at least 5) times to build up a realistic idea of what they're like. It's all part of the enjoyment of being holier-than-thou in the coffee world. We love it, and we love the arrogance of being coffee-elitists.
In short, Gloria Jeans New Plymouth scored a high 4-cup rating over the course of 4 months of tastings. Not bad at all. The next cafe I suggest you all try is Empire Cafe. Now, THAT'S a delicious brew...

Kueerip
17th November 2010 At one stage we chose this coffee house over a very large and popular chain, how ever it did not last long, the drinks are prepared well but seem to be slow, and when I was prepared to spend some serious money on beans to take home none of the staff knew anything about coffee, they knew how to make it (and it was nothing flash) but absolutely no idea how to sell, a good salesperson can sell fresh air, you can admit you dont know a lot about coffee but engage with a client in such a way that the buyer still buys the product. To be told simply "dunno" when asking about the large variety of beans available, ensured that my dollar went elsewhere. After only two visits we decided to go to the popular franchise and have never gone back. The food looks old and is overpriced, and as for the sweet items, they are all incredibly small, anyway, we tried to support what appears to be a local business (do not know if it is a franchise but never heard the name before) but with bad presentation and appalling personal or communication skills of the extremely young looking staff, we wont be going back.
