New wood burner, old wood burner - the same technical issue has remained for centuries. Here is the principal: One single length of pipe - Light, hot air rising one end - cold, heavy air lowering at the other. The hot air may indeed be hot but the source is much smaller than the environment it exhausts itself in and that hot air meets with unfair competition.
Cowls mostly focus on the wind element causing down draft but its more simple than that. The cold end of the pipe above creates air pressure down the wood fire flue causing difficulty in lighting and smoke to billow outward rather than inward. No fancy wood fire with all the double, triple, quadruple combustion pockets will stop that from happening!
The FlueCube is a cowl. It doesn't pretend to be anything else. It's one that works more effectively than most. The design is cubic and this is essential: After lighting heat begins traveling up the flue and is forced to fan outward toward the upper wall of the FlueCube chamber. The vacuum caused by the heat pulls the cold air down via the cube's 4 corners. Cold and hot air react with each other and form into a spinning cyclone. Additional air is also attracted up from below compressing any unburnt carbon particles. This 'no smoke' effect usually takes around 5 minutes to occur and once it does - no more smoke, no more back pressure, a healthy, cleaner - more efficient fire, a home that gets warmer faster and no more complaints from neighbours.
