Jikishin Dojo - School for Aikido is a training place for everyone interested in Aikido and weapons training, based in Glenfield, Auckland. More information, training hours, videos and photos can be found on our webpage. Here some ideas about Aikido:
Aikido is a japanese martial art characterized by soft, rational, flowing, circular and spiraling motions. Movements are used to control and overcome the opponent by learning how to make good use of the strength and energy that underlay an adverse attack, i.e. by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on.
Aikido teaches good posture, coordination and economy of movement and provides us with a set of skills applicable to many different demands. Increased stamina, flexibility, and strength occur naturally as a result of training.
Aikido techniques do not depend on strength for effectiveness, so men and women of all ages and all fitness levels can practice Aikido effectively. Classes can be catered to everybody's needs and wishes and all movements will be introduced step-by-step before moving on to more advanced and dynamic progressions, weapons training included (sword, staff and knife).
We welcome anyone who is interested to come around and join in for a free trial session!
