Murray Lyon has been a life-long fishing fanatic. Starting out his working life in the late 70's as a commercial fisherman, long lining out of The Bay of Islands, a world renowned fishing mecca, he cemented his love for fishing.
After leaving the commercial fishing industry Murray has deckied and skippered on a number of game boats where his passion for game fishing became an obsession!
It was this obsession for fishing that led to him manufacturing the legendary "Hooker Lures". In addition to creating and supplying a wide range of Hooker Fishing Tackle products. Most days Murray can be found in his Whakatane based workshop producing his lures as well as creating new prototypes. However, when he is not entrenched in his workshop he is out fishing, dreaming fishing or talking fishing.
Having had a variety of boats over the years, Murray now fishes from his 23ft Bertram which allows him to travel to the hot spots during the season. (also making life easier crossing the notorious Whakatane bar!)
Hooker Lures have aided anglers and skippers to catch many game fish throughout the world's "hotspots", culminating in numerous tournament wins both here in NZ and internationally including Hawaii, Cabo - Mexico, Aussie, Tonga and South Africa. (And these are just the ones we know of!!)
