23rd March 2011 Probably one of the best restaurants that I've ever dined in - excellent food, friendly staff and wonderful ambiance. Would recommend Bistro Lago for a romantic meal or celebration. Two Thumbs Up!!!
The Terraces Hotel overlooks the beautiful Lake Taupo and beyond to the central plateau mountains and is set in the heart of the North Island.
The tastefully refurbished historic building offers boutique accommodation and is a Taupo icon dating back to the 1880s.
The Terraces was named after the Black Silica Terraces that once surrounded it. It is one of Taupo's architectural icons situated in the historic Onekeke Thermal Valley with ancient pumice flows. The Terraces Hotel is a stunning venue for weddings, conferences, product launches and functions.
Situated 1km from the lake front along State Highway 5, the Terraces Hotel is proud to have Bistro Lago, which is part of Nourish Group as its food and beverage operator.
To visit the Terraces is to enjoy superb surroundings and a quality of service in one of New Zealand's most beautiful locations.
20th August 2011 We wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary by going somewhere which advertised themselves as "fine dining". On that basis we selected Bistro Lago and totally regret our decision.
We arrived early (10 mins before our booking of 8:30) and were greeted with a surly maitre d who didn't really care. She showed us to the bar and left us to order our drinks. The music was hediously loud and totally inappropriate for "fine dining' or a romantic evening experience. While we were approached once for extra drinks we were kept waiting until nearly 8:45 when we were approached again and asked for more drinks. The maitre d had odviously forgotten about us (easily done as we were the only ones in the bar!!!). We asked about our table and were finally shown to a window table for two. My wife was cold sitting next to the window so moved to the other side of our table. Incidentally, the outside temperature was -1C when we left. We regret not leaving earlier but decided to stay in the hope that the evening would get better. It didn't.
While the food was good the rest of our dining experience was a disaster and not worth recommending to anyone. In fact we will most likely make a point of letting all our freinds and work colleagues know how awful it was.

9th September 2010 Dined here last Saturday night with two friends and would definitely rate it as one of the best food experiences I have had - and this includes many overseas restaurants too. Enjoyable pre-dinner drink in the bar beforehand. Amazing and attentative (without being in your face) service throughout the entire meal. Highly recommend this restaurant to people looking for a fine dining experience in Taupo.

7th September 2010 We dined at the Bisto Lago last Saturday night. We enjoyed our champagne aperitif in the lounge bar before entering the restaurant. Our meal was fantastic, the portion sizes generous and the ambience relaexed. The staff were courteous, informative yet discreet. The wine list was extensive and we enjoyed a very smooth pinot noir! The overall atmosphere, menu & clientele made for a superb dining experience.
Our bill was in excess of $400 but was worth every penny as it was about more than just food.
