The new face of glazing
KristalBond, the latest innovation in glass glazing, is now in New Zealand.
oeThe days of your furniture and fittings fading and your home turning into a heat trap in the hot summer months will be a thing of the past with this unique new product, says Duncan McDonald, KristalBond(TM)s New Zealand franchisor.
oeSimply put, KristalBond is a crystal clear liquid coating designed to absorb and therefore stop the damaging effects of infrared and UV light from entering homes and workplaces without noticeably losing the visible light you(TM)re used to, or the clear views. It is also insulating and therefore helps your home retain heat.
Standard 6mm float glass generally blocks solar radiation by 20%. After KristalBond is applied, solar absorption rises to 46%, including blocking 99% of UV and 90% of infrared light.
Because 99% of UV light is blocked, furniture and fittings fade less quickly.
Infrared light, which raises the temperature in your home during the hot summer months, is blocked by 90% and can keep the temperature in your home between 3-50C cooler.
Conversely, in the winter months it works as an added insulation barrier which helps your home to retain the precious heat that is usually lost through your standard glass windows.
While KristalBond is designed to block UV and infrared light, it only reduces the amount of visible light coming into your home by a barely noticeable 10-14%.
Traditional tint films come in a fixed size and leave visible joints if the glass is wide.
KristalBond is applied in a self-levelling liquid form which means the coating is seamless. There is no limit to the size of the area applicators can apply it to - the size of a single area can be as wide and high as 4m " and you will see no joins.
oeAs a liquid coating that chemically bonds onto the surface of glass without the use of an adhesive, there is almost no limit to what you can apply it to.
oeKristalBond(TM)s composition is similar to glass. As such, there(TM)s no chance of delaminating, peeling or bubbling " which is also why it comes with an unprecedented 10 year warranty, says Duncan.
Compared to tint films that have a thickness of 30-40 micrometres, KristalBond is a super thin 7 micrometres. And just because it(TM)s thin, doesn(TM)t mean it(TM)s not hardy. Float and tempered glass have a measured hardness of above 7H " KristalBond is 6H so while it(TM)s not 100% scratch proof, you(TM)ll have to work hard to leave a mark.
Trained applicators can cover an area of up to 50m2 in a day. Kristalbond is applied to the inside of windows and similar to commercial paints, it contains solvents (like you may find in household cleaners).
oeOpening the windows to ventilate the area means the smell is gone within a day, says Duncan.
So far KristalBond has been patented in Brunei, China, France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK and America, Australia " and now New Zealand.
