Authentic French delicatessen.
Pastry addict or cheese connoisseur, we offer you a delightful range of fresh authentic delicacies in a spacious and comfortable place.
24th August 2013 I was taken for my first experience at So French for afternoon tea. To be honest I was not impressed. There is very limited seating and the area called 'The Lounge' - which is where we sat - was filthy. The table was all sticky (we had to ask for a cloth to clean it) and the sofas and floor were covered in bits of pastry flakes and such other debris. This immediately put me off and I felt quite uncomfortable sitting amongst someone else's mess. The Milles Feuilles was okay but rather dry but it was past 3pm.
So French déli-café
26th August 2013 Bonjour Jillscott,
Many thanks for your feedback.
My staff is supposed to wipe the tables after each customer with a wet cloth. I will make sure it doesn't happen again.
We do our best to maintain the floor as clean as we can by sweeping it regularly, nevertheless it can't be done between all customers...
Our mille-feuilles are freshly made overnight. They are made of layers of caramelised puff pastry and vanilla custard, topped up with a fondant. They are not supposed to be over-creamy.
The combination of cream and flaky crusty dry flaky pastry is actually what we are looking for. Maybe the mille-feuilles is not your favorite French patisserie? I recommend you to try the éclair with its creamy rich crème patissiere in a light "chou" pastry!
Now, like you, I deeply deplore the lack of seatings in my café-déli. I am limited to 24 seats by the council. I'd love to add more of them but that would cost me $16000 per 4 seats as a dispense for using the city car parks. It is an expense I might consider in a couple of months. Unfortunately, as we've just opened 2 months ago, I don't have this kind of money for the moment.
But that's another debate...
Anyway, thanks a lot for your feedback, any good or bad one helps me to make So French a good café-déli where food, coffee and service are the best we can offer.
Kind regards,
Kristell BOISSEAU (So French owner)
