Crow Refractory History
Crow Refractory has been in operation for over 20 years, joining the TBS Group in 2001. Crow Refractory has grown in size and capability over this period through a combination of internally driven innovation and service, and a number of strategic acquisitions, with the result that Crow Refractory is now the major provider of refractory services in New Zealand.
Crow Refractory Installations NZ Ltd was the result of a joint venture with Crow Industries Pty Ltd, Australia, formed to take advantage of the "Think Big" projects of the mid 1980s. The Company was immediately successful by securing the contract for New Zealand Steel Development Stage I Refractory Installations Contract (final value $9m).
The company has continued to be successful in the refractory field having undertaken the majority of the capital works projects of any significance whilst at the same time steadily increasing its client base.
The subsequent acquisition of Roberts Fire Protection Pty Ltd (Australia), manufacturers of a wide range of Passive Fire Protection products was made. This purchase allowed Crow Refractory Installations NZ Ltd to extend its base into what is an allied industry and in 1990, Crow commenced the manufacture of exfoliated vermiculite and Roberts Fire Protection products.
In 1993 an affiliation was formed with METZ Pty Ltd, an Australian Company involved with the manufacture and installation of corrosion and abrasion resistant systems, thus providing the completion of the range of activities which we and our Clients expect a Refractory Installation company to encompass.
In 1992 Brambles, through subsidiary Gardner Perrott Refractories purchased Crow Refractory Installation. GPR itself had been formed through the acquisition of New Zealand Furnaces (a company that had been in existence for some considerable time and up to the early 1990s had dominated the refractory installation business) and the purchase of the assets of another refractory company Refractory Bricklayers.
