15th October 2012 I am a third year student midwife who has had the priviledge of working with both Vicky Wickliffe and Beatrice Leatham. These ladies are Maori Midwives and provide a supportive and caring service for all West Auckland women although the majority of their women are Maori and Pacific Island women. They focus on providing midwivery care that is woman centred and work with the woman to ensure that her journey is developed around her wishes. Their Maori ethnicity is a bonus for a lot of Maori women who would prefer to have taoutoko (support) from a Maori midwife.
