I've had the privilege of being taught by Peter for the past 18 years. Throughout this time Peter has been an exemplary teacher, always providing valuable feedback suited to my level, and lessons were always engaging and enjoyable. Peter has always been very open and supportive of my own musical goals and aspirations, even helping support me to having an actually-decently popular YouTube piano channel. Peter has been a fantastic mentor and has guided me a great deal across my musical career and life. I have had only positive experiences with him and would highly recommend him to anyone regardless of skill level.

Peter is an exceptional teacher. He has taught our children piano over the last 3 years, and during that time he has kept them engaged and enthusiastic with their learning. He makes the effort to relate to them in ways that are aligned with their musical aspirations and enjoyment, taking them both successfully through exams and teaching them how to break down what they are listening to, and work out how to play it. Our children have been learning piano over a 9 year period, and Peter's teaching has proved inspirational. We rarely have to ask the children to practice, and they love learning from him. Their musicianship has flourished under his guidance, and we could not have hoped for a better experience.

I attended piano lessons with Peter for the better part of a decade. He is an exceptionally patient, cheerful and talented teacher. He never failed to find ways to both help me improve my skills as a pianist and as a musician as a whole. His knowledge of the instrument and of music as a whole has allowed him to help me explore a range of different styles and techniques throughout the time I attended his lessons. Everything from basic to advanced theory, classical to jazz, technique to musicality, he was able to help me learn a huge range of skills that have greatly improved my musicality. When I first started attending lessons I wasn't all too interested in playing music at all really, however his positive attitude, patience and ability to find pieces of music that really stimulated me has played a huge role in turning me into someone who now wants nothing more than to play music for the rest of my life. His deep love of music should be apparent to anyone that's met him and he was always more than happy to teach me how to play any piece in any style or genre and even explore albums and songs I, and other students, had recommended him outside of lesson times. I think most telling of his skills as a teacher is the fact that he could deal with teaching me as a child, all the way up to teaching me as an adult. He never got angry or even raised his voice a little during the time I saw him, he was always exceptionally calm and patient through any number of mistakes or my own frustration at myself. He helped guide me through any difficulty I was having with anything within a piece I was learning or composing. Peter is also great to just have a conversation with and in the last year or so that I took lessons the first 10 or so minutes would usually just involve a lovely chat about things going on in our lives both musically and otherwise. Despite this I never left feeling as if I hadn't gotten enough done or had wasted time by talking with him. Overall I greatly enjoyed and appreciated my time with Peter, he has been integral to my development as both an artist and as a person. If you or someone you know have any interest in learning the piano, Peter is absolutely the best person for the job.

Peter has been an outstanding teacher from the beginning of my piano journey which started almost 6 years ago. He is patient, his passion for music is infectious and he is a lovely person to talk to. Peter has taught me a variety of classical, jazz and pop pieces which has made learning exciting. He is a very capable teacher and musician (you should hear him play!). Peter is very easy going and is supportive of the musical journey I want to go on. His teachings have given me the skills and confidence to upload piano cover recordings to YouTube. A couple of these arrangements were learnt by ear from songs I love, which has always been a goal of mine and I am very proud of. I highly recommend Peter to anyone wanting to learn piano as I definitely would like to return for more lessons in the future.

Peter has been my teacher for less than a year. He is kind, supportive and his positive attitude toward teaching created an environment for making mistakes and learning from them. He is easy to talk to and is very passionate about playing and teaching the Piano in different styles and genres. Even though Im leaving Wellington, Peter has inspired me to continue playing the Piano. He is a wonderful Piano teacher and I would highly recommend him to any ages and levels.

Peter has taught me so much in the past 8 years or so, really funny and easy to talk to. He is very good at matching what you want to do with your skill level.

Peter has been an absolutely wonderful teacher. I've been taking lessons with him for a few months now, and with each lesson I fall more and more in love with playing the piano. Going into it I was nervous as I am already a bit older, but from the beginning, Peter was very reassuring and encouraging. I've never been afraid of making mistakes or asking questions during a lesson and always look forward to going. Peter worked with me to tailor each lesson to my personal goals and needs while balancing both the technical aspects of learning with fun. He is patient, kind, understanding, and very knowledgeable. I'd recommend him to anyone interested in learning about music and playing the piano.

Peter has taught me for the last two years and has easily been the best piano teacher I have had. He adapted to my learning styles as an adult learner and made it a very fruitful and enjoyable experience.

Coming in as an adult, learning piano was definitely a challenge. Peter was incredibly encouraging and flexible, with a real passion for music. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Peter taught me for just over a year and guided me through my Grade 8 piano exam, which I achieved with distinction, as well as two successful auditions for the New Zealand School of Music and the Otago University music school. He is kind, energetic, patient, highly knowledgeable and I have thoroughly enjoyed being his student.

I have been learning piano with Peter for about two years, having started quite late on the piano (16). Prior to seeking lessons, I knew very little technique (having only aimlessly noodled on the keyboard) and had quite poor reading ability. In these two years under Peter's direction, I was able to progress from a very rudimentary knowledge of scales to being able to memorize and play a 3-voice Bach Fugue. I have enjoyed Peter's very non-dogmatic approach to teaching, and believe I have benefited from his ability to keep learning interesting whilst building a solid technical foundation. Thus I can wholeheartedly recommend his tuition to anyone wishing to learn or progress on the piano.

Peter is an extremely enthusiastic and patient teacher who has a real passion for music. He is very easy going and great at putting is students at ease. He is very flexible and has a wide musical knowledge so he can work with you to play the music you want. It has been a real pleasure being his student.

Peter is a fantastic piano teacher. I have been learning with him for just over 2 years now, and am still really enjoying it. He is extremely knowledgeable about all things music, and has always been happy to talk/ show me through anything I have had trouble with. Peter encourages me to get outside my comfort zone and take on new challenges, meaning I never get bored with the work he sets for me. He is genuinely passionate about music and playing the piano, and I couldn't recommend him any higher for pianists of any level.

I have been learning with Peter for around 2 years now, and every lesson has been enlightening as well as pleasant. Peter is always willing to teach and explore a range of musical styles that I am interested in, and is definitely not short of knowledge in any area. My lessons did not feel like they were exclusively Piano lessons, as I was comfortable to discuss any musical questions I had, whether it was jazz theory or the history of music. Over the course of my study with Peter, I feel as if he has been pivotal in the development of my musical ability, not only on the Piano but as an all-round musician. He is friendly, patient, and easy-going, ultimately making my lessons feel as if I was learning from a friend. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Peter, and would happily recommend him to anyone who is keen to learn the Piano.

I have been a student of Peter for at least 5 years now and a can safely say he is a great teacher. Peter let me learn what I wanted as well teaching me the fundamentals to music. He has helped me through many different genres of piano and is always enthusiastic when I want to try something new. Peter always goes above and beyond. But most importantly he is really easy to get along with.

I had lessons from Peter over at least 15 years. I decided as a mature student that I wanted to expand my classical background into the jazz and impovision space. Peter is a very patient and extremely talented teacher who coaxed me through the change in approach, the new termnology and event to the point of supressing my nerves and taking part in live workshops with a drummer and bass player. Peter has an unassuming manner and the talent to modify his teaching style to the needs of his student. He has an amazing broad knowledge of music across all genres and I would strongly recommend him to anyone at any age who wants to learn to play.

Peter has been teaching my son for 2 years, since he was 7 years old. I was keen for a teacher who would be flexible for different music styles and learning preferences, and he has definitely delivered on this hope. My son is quite shy but Peter has been great with him, allowing the relationship to develop at its own pace. He is very relaxed and friendly, not to mention an obviously natural musician himself. We are sad to be losing him due to upcoming relocation.

I have had piano lessons with Peter for about 6 years and I've really enjoyed them. During my lessons I would learn a range of pieces as well as additional theory as I went along to help me understand my pieces better. I learnt jazz piano which I love and really enjoy playing - with this I learnt how to understand the different chord symbols, ideas and ways to voice the chords, how to play improv as well as many other useful skills. Additionally, Peter would help me with my compositions and would give me suggestions on how to improve them. He also helped me learn about recording music - which was often through experimentation to see what types of mics would work best and how to set everything up, and then how to produce the recordings with changing the settings and using software. The frequent playing groups were a great low key opportunity to perform. Peter is such a talented musician himself so learning piano from him was inspiring. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning piano from Peter and have learnt many useful skills to help me grow as a musician.

I've been learning from Peter for the last couple of years. His diverse musical background and taste makes it easy to bring up any topic. He's encourages me to bring along things to work on that I'm interested in, as well as offering exercises and pieces to fill in the gaps. The relaxing nature of the lessons has helped me develop not only in many musical areas, but also with my performance anxiety. Having the chance to perform at the routine playing groups also really helped with this. The relaxed nature of the lessons provides a great atmosphere, without detracting from the quality. I've really enjoyed the strides of progress I've managed to take under Peters tutelage.

I've had piano lesson from Peter for over a year as an adult learner, having just taken up the instrument. My musical interests are fairly diverse and Peter has been superb at helping me with everything from classical to prog rock, jazz and pop. I like Peter's relaxed style and attention to detail, helping me to become aware of all the subtitles of piano beyond hitting the right keys at the right time. I am amazed at the progress I've made in a year and would attribute much of that to Peter's help. Learning piano is fun and Peter is a great guy to help you.

My daughter has been receiving piano lessons from Peter for 3 years, since she was 7 and most weeks I sit in on the lesson. Peter is the perfect piano teacher for children, as he keeps it interesting and exciting for them, is approachable and friendly, gently brings them back on track when their focus wanders and seems to have an endless supply of patience. I am not sure that many piano teachers could connect so well and bring out the best in their students the way Peter does. We have been very impressed.

I have been having piano lessons with Peter for 11 years now and it has been one of the best things I have ever done. Peter is very positive and encouraging in his teaching and this style has certainly helped me to improve as a pianist. He has an extensive knowledge of the genres of piano music and he has a way of explaining things that is very easy to understand. Over my years with Peter I have completed the 5 grades of Jazz piano, had instruction in theory and in more recent times have been free to find my own pieces (ranging from 20th century pop to classical) and learn them with Peter which he has been more than happy to do. Another aspect of learning that Peter offers and encourages are the playing groups that are held at the end of each school term where pupils perform in front of one another. This has been something that has certainly helped not just my piano playing but also has also improved my public speaking and has given me more confidence in situations where I would have once been nervous and shy. Learning a musical instrument is something that I would strongly encourage as I have seen the positive impacts that this has had for me - the piano being one that introduces and enhances many skills that you can take forward and incorporate into all faculties of your life. Peter is incredibly easy to talk to and get along with and this has made my experience of learning with him something that I will always be grateful for and appreciative of.

I have been learning the piano from Peter for over one year now and I've only had positive and constructive lessons. Peter was willing to cover all types of music with me and always stayed positive. Over the year he's improved my piano skills and has also helped with getting me through my music school grades. I would highly recommend taking lessons with Peter.

I initially came to Peter after several years of tuition under a strict, exam orientated piano tutor, which was not a style I reacted very well to. Peter's much more laid back and casual and yet focussed attitude is what I have found to be much more beneficial to my playing, and I have enjoyed my 8 or so years under his tuition. If you are more focussed on having a strict, rigid environment to learn an instrument in then Peter is probably not the man for you but if you want to actually enjoy learning an instrument while still getting the skills and results which you seek, whether it be in playing groups or exams, then I highly recommend Peter.

I have been learning from Peter for a few years now after many years away from the piano having given it up in my teens. I had the intention of learning jazz/pop pieces straight from the sheet but he quickly got me soloing, which I initially thought I would not have the creativity for and would find too challenging. But guess what, it worked (after a while). What I like about Peter is he tries to get you to find what you like in music and work on that. With any piece he encourages you to experiment until you find one thing that works for you and then develop that, and ultimately put your own individuality on the piece and make it something uniquely yours. I think that ultimately he has the art in mind (although he has plenty of the critical bread and butter technique exercises). He as a wealth of knowledge across different styles and ages of music and always is good for a conversation about musical styles and artists. He teaches based on your interests and where you want to go, but also he's intuitive and knows if you're getting carried away trying too much etc. Great guy.

I came to Peter at very short notice, yet he was still welcoming and happy to take me on. I was only with him for a short amount of time but he helped me with my goal of achieving a satisfying result for my solo performance in music NCEA leave 1. He also taught me theory and composition. He was willing to cover all types of music and was always cheerful with a positive vibe. Peter was very patient, and continued to explain things I didn't understand until i did. Overall, Peter is a wonderful music tutor, i would highly recommend him for a piano teacher.

I have been learning from Peter since I was 7 years old and am about to finish now after 11 years of fantastic tuition as I am leaving Wellington. Over that time I have learned classical, pop, and jazz piano thanks to Peter and have been guided through the Royal School of Music's five jazz piano grades. Peter can teach a variety of music from Mozart to Bill Evans to Coldplay and he is always exploring new songs to show students if they might be interested or to inspire. Peter has always been a persistently cheerful, encouraging, and patient teacher who has put up with my early clanging of the keys and provided me with a strong technical grounding as well as a love of the piano. He always goes out of his way to help me whether it be finding me music, organising playing groups and rhythm sections, and even putting sheet music in my letterbox. He is extraordinarily easy to get along with and is genuinely interested in my life not just teaching me piano. His unwavering positivity and passion for piano has been exceptional and I am sad to have to leave his tutelage but will continue to play ably thanks to Peter's teaching.

Peter has been my teacher for nigh on a decade, first starting when I was in the early stages of primary school. His teaching style is encouraging, warm, supportive and inspiring. He is both supportive and challenging and creates an environment where I feel any student can play what will make them happy to play. He has an extensive knowledge of a number of styles and creates an easy balance between these, combining, for example, training in classical technique and Jazz improvisation. He provides students with a number of valuable and challenging opportunities, notably the chance to play with New Zealand School of Music students in a jazz trio setting several times a year and small recitals with fellow students. Peter is wonderfully easy to get along with and has been an inspiration not just to my playing, but other aspects of life as well.

I have been learning from Peter for over 4 years now and have had only positive and constructive lessons that are still fun and interesting. Peter is very easy going and supportive no matter how seriously you approach it as long as you try and has really helped me improve my piano skills which I will cherish, and utilize. I would highly recommend taking lessons with him.

I received tuition from Peter for one year as I had to improve my piano skills in order to gain entry into a Masters programme at the NZSM. He listened to exactly what I needed to learn and tailored my weekly lessons to suit. His knowledge of Jazz and theory were especially helpful and he always ensured lessons were interesting and engaging so I would always leave feeling invigorated and keen to practise for the following lesson. With Peter's help my piano playing has improved dramatically after only one year and I've now successfully completed the audition for the programme I was striving for. Peter is wonderful to work with and genuinely interested in sharing his passion for the piano with others, I highly recommend him as a teacher.

Peter has been teaching me for about 7 years and it has been a very fun experience. He has taught me a range of different musical skills like jazz, classical, pop, theory and composition. The opportunity to play in a jazz rhythm workshop with a drummer and bassist has been especially good and very helpful for my advance in jazz piano. Peter is an easy going, relaxed teacher who still manages to teach you a lot and is easy to get along with.

My son has been receiving tuition from Peter for around 8 years and the experience has only been positive. Peter has taken my son from his first notes on the piano to successful completion of Grade 5 Jazz which includes instruction on theory, performance and improvisation. There has been ample opportunity to play in front of others including with a rhythym section. Peter has been been happy to go the extra mile and his quiet, encouraging and nurturing approach has helped my son to become a more than capable musician.
