30th March 2016 Booked in for a dinner of 6 last week. I was looking forward to tasting the menu after reading reviews but VSB was a real let down. The service was terrible with the larger lady front of house making it clear that we were inconveniencing her. The food was a real let down. Bland and expensive for what it was. I wouldn't ever bother going back and after talking to friends who have also been to VSB, they have all had a similar experience.

27th June 2015 I bought Grabone vouchers for my parents to enjoy a lunch. My parents are not fussy people, however they were most disappointed by the quality of food at this restaurant.
The bread for starters was stale. The mains were small and completely unappetising i.e. cold terrine with a bitter taste and the duck dish was a mess of brown gravy substance and chewy meat.
Even the coffee with cinnamon had a far too heavy, thick coating of cinnamon which was undrinkable.
Upon leaving they were asked how the meal was. My mother replied it was not good, and the waiter said 'well it was a Grabone deal'. Shocking reply. So Grabone deals are supposed to be sub-standard ???? - really ???
Never again will we go to this establishment.

18th July 2013 My husband 12 year old daughter and I called into the Victoria Street Bistro on our way back from Auckland we were having a drink and contemplating on our dinner options. Our 12 year old had a very respectable crochet beanie on as it was a very cold late July evening. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. A staff member, presumably a waitress called out across the room very rudely that she was not permitted in their restaurant to have her beanie on and that she remove it. She did but the way this was communicated to us, and that we were the only ones in the establishment at the time was unacceptable, we left immediately, there are ways and means of communicating , this was just plain rude.

Exceptional, except for the lady who greeted us at the door. Our booking was for 8 (inc 2 children) the booking was taken for 6 inc 2 children. When I questioned this she said that "Well we cant fit you in"..after checking again she said OK albeit begrudgingly..."Thanks for doing me a favour" is all I can say...you mucked up the booking and I received your abrupt attitude.
Food
A very mixed bag.
Was really looking forward to dinner after viewing the menu on the internet however the reality didn't match the description.
Pate - stock standard and quite bland - keystone or furnace do a much better job.
Pork Wellington - pastry was raw inside (thank-you for comping the dish but we would have preferred to have it cooked).
Bombe Alaska - What looks like your signature dish fails to deliver. Average presentation...waitress had to go back to the kitchen to warm up the liquor and the sponge was stale...overall quite disappointing.
Coffee - short black was overly bitter
Wont be returning in a hurry.
