Feel the sun on your face on a Seal Coast Safari. You will connect with the 'real New Zealand' as we drive for 20 rugged kilometres along the beach, over rocks, around the bays and headlands, with the ocean lapping the 4WDs. To get to the seals, we climb in the vehicles (we call them 'Sealmobiles') through farmland which we have privileged access to. Here we can come face-to-face with wild goats, ostriches and even wild horses! You will be gob-smacked by the spectacular views of the City, the South Island, both the Pacific and Tasman oceans and distant snowcapped mountain ranges.
Stories abound as we four-wheel-drive right on the beach around to Tongue Point, which is home both to a colony of amazing New Zealand fur seals, and the famous Leaning Lighthouse. Tea or coffee with a gourmet muffin is enjoyed with the seals, then it's around the rocky bays and black-sand beaches back to Wellington city.
Almost all of the 3 hour safari is on restricted or unmarked private roads or tracks, and small numbers on the safari make for friendly and informative tours.
One seasoned traveller described it as "the best mini-tour of my life" and an international travel writer from Sweden said it was her "best New Zealand experience".
Tours depart daily from the Wellington i-SITE Visitor Centre at 10.00am and 1.30pm, and take 3 hours.
Seal Coast Safari is Qualmark endorsed and seals are guaranteed 364 days of the year!
