24th September 2014 Visited here in the weekend for lunch and we were hugely impressed, the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. Made us feel relaxed immediately and helped us with our menu choices. I had the half size pan fried fish and mu partner had the southern fried crispy chicken.... amazing!! Way better than standard pub fare. I am glad I ordered the half size though as the meals were a very generous size, definitely a place to visit if you are hungry!
We settled in nicely and ended up staying for over hours and a couple of tasty craft beers for the afternoon.
Overall absolutely fantastic place - we will definitely be back!

24th January 2014 Had a really enjoyable lunch at this place, food was excellent value for money, well presented and YUMMY!! We had a lovely waitress who was attentive and efficient - we enjoyed it so much we decided to pop back the next night for dinner and to (hopefully) enjoy the live music. Well we had another excellent (large) meal and after dinner moved outside to the garden bar where the band was starting up. It turned out to be just our thing and we enjoyed another couple of hours with a couple of drinks and a spot of dancing! Highly recommend this place.

9th April 2012 Went to Pig & Whistle Historic Pub for Easter Sunday 2012, the place looks really nice, bit of a shame that the nice looking fire place not turned on to create a nicer atmosphere. Anyway ordered food and drinks at the bar and paid straight away. Long story short we started waiting for our meals, tables next us also waited a long time. Then these two ladies at another table got their meals before us even though arriving after us. Finally after 1 hour and a half we received our meals. Three of us ordered Venison which was way over cooked even though 30 minutes earlier we told them after asked that we would like it medium rare. Shitake mushrooms that tasted like shoe sole. The chicken meal was great. Was really keen on ordering their banoffie pie but not keen on waiting another 1 hour and a half. Avoid this place at all cost unless you want to wait a life time for your meals, even the comment cards are pointless as there are no pens provided to fill them out. A great way to avoid bad comments obviously.

26th January 2012 Went for lunch on a week day, the meals are huge. I had one of the chicken sandwiches/burgers that came with pig tail (curly) fries, it was more than I could eat therefore brilliant value for money. They also hand out containers for anyone who can't finish their meals so they are able to take them home. The service was great too, it has a very relaxed atmosphere, very casual. There is a nice area outside but all undercover to get away from the area that is more like a pub.
On the other hand I did go back for dinner on a sunday night, it was completely full, so I turned around and left but would recommend booking or arriving early, also it feels a lot more like a pub at night, and there are bouncers outside at night. And more of a warning they have signs up about hoodies, and I have also heard from friends that they will make you take your hoody off or leave, just something to take into consideration.
I would definitely recommend the Pig and Whistle for lunch, it is very family friendly and there is also a children's menu.
