8th June 2013 shocking experience I'm afraid. Went this evening with my husband, and ended up walking out 2 minutes into our main.
The first awkward moment was when the waitress couldn't tell me whether they offered soup. I noticed pork belly in miso soup on the menu, but was hoping she could clarify whether it was soup or not. she said "oh haha I'm not sure, it says miso soup so..." and then that was the end of that conversation!
So we order chicken teriyaki and my husband ordered an entree. The entree plate was spilled all over the floor when she came to clear it from the table, and then left on the floor so that she could get us our mains (this didn't really worry me, we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time so wasn't a risk to someone accidentally slipping, and she cleaned it when our mains came).
About 2 minutes into our main, the waitress walked towards the back bar / kitchen entrance, and screamed so loud I dropped my chopsticks. she shrieked, arms in the air, and ran away from the where she was as though she had seem a mouse of something.
My husband and I stopped eating and were looking towards the back where the waitress was crying. We couldn't see her, but a few minutes later she came back and we were a bit freaked out and she apologised. I asked her what happened, and she wouldn't tell us, just repeating "I'm so sorry, I just made a big mistake, its not a big deal, it was nothing, don't worry." I asked her if she saw something, and she wouldn't answer, just tried to walk away and said "oh um..don't worry, it's nothing".
So we were freaked out enough to leave, I offered to pay for the entree and beer my husband had, but they said don't worry about it which was fair enough I think.
Will never be returning...especially because I am quite convinced the waitress saw something that was probably not meant to be in the restaurant and then wouldn't tell us which is poor form.
Appetite lost on this one =(

23rd July 2012 I just had a very dissatisfying experience with Sapporo restaurant. I am gluten intolerant, so 'special gluten free menu' sounded very tempting for me indeed - as all the other Japanese takeaways / restaurants that I have been before do not have this option. When my colleagues and I arrived at the restaurant, I consulted with the waiter, and she explained me that the only options from gluten free were sushi and sashimi. All the hot meals, tempuras, udons contained gluten in them and there were no gluten free choices available. Being pregnant, I cannot afford to eat sushi anyway, and the general knowledge is that sashimi and some sorts of sushi are gulten free by default, and you can order the same in most Japanese takeaways / restaurants, which did not advertise themselves as 'Gluten Free'. I am not particularry choosy about the food, so could go with anything like hot meal - udon, tempura or chicken / fish. None of those options were available. As a result, of this misunderstanding, me and my fellow colleagues had to leave the restaurant and search for another place with gluten free options. This resulted in confusion, dissatisfaction and being 30 mins late for work from lunch. I hope this review helps other gluten intolerant people not to be misleaded by the 'special gluten free option' advertised by this restaurant. Thanks for your attention.
