Established in 1994, Oh Calcutta Restaurant has been the winner of a number of Restaurant awards.
Most recently being METRO'S Top 50 Best Asian Restaurants in 2009 and Viva's Takeout Awards for 2008 - Best Indian voted by the New Zealand Herald (19th November 2008).
Over the years I learned that the essence of good Indian cooking revolves around the appropriate use of the aromatic spices.
The skill lies in subtle blending of a variety of spices to enhance, rather than overwhelm the basic flavour of a particular dish. Indian food relies on the balance of the spices in which it is cooked.
They say that the proof of the pudding is in the eating, however I think with today's changing tastes, we should say "the proof of the curry is in the eating". You will realise the true impact of this phrase when you experience the delights from my eatery.

This is my absolute favourite indian restaurant! The food is to die for, the service is fantastic, the prices are reasonable and the ambience is above average for an indian restaurant. If you appreciate indian cuisine you can't go past Oh Calcutta.

This place has great food and in summer has great outdoor dining. The best part for me is that we had a party of about 15 odd people and the waiter didn't write down a single order, he had it all in his head. I tried to screw with him by changing my order twice but he got every single order right....good food too.

Living in Parnell, this is my local Indian restaurant but I can honestly say that even if I lived an hours drive away I'd still go to it. By far the best Indian restaurant in Auckland. Plus, if you have a group of four or more, they do a $35 a head set menu that gives you more food than you could possibly eat! Oh, and it's BYO - what more could you ask for!

To get truly excellent Indian food, then eat here. It's way beyond the standard shake of chili spice if you want it hot. Service and the taste of the food are never to be faulted. For the best one in Auckland you have to stop off here.

I can honestly say that Oh Calcutta is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to! The food is fantastic and there is a huge menu to cater to any taste. Oh Calcutta is located in the heart of Parnell so there are plenty of places to get a drink before or after. Ask to be seated outside - its a great place to people watch!

We dined at Oh Calcutta recently after returning from the UK for 5 years hoping to find the flavours and service we remembered so well prior to leaving...and we did. Great to find a good Indian Restaurant back home again. Flavours in the butter chicken are devine (including many others)which is what you pay money to dine out for.
