Stephen Laurie of Laurie's Furniture, Handcrafts The Finest Handmade English Period Investment Furniture, inspired by many of the great 18th-century English furniture designers. Working with solid wood such as Mahogany and burr walnut veneers, owner and master craftsman and woodcarver Stephen Laurie creates each piece using time-honoured carving techniques, ornate detailing and intricate inlaid veneers. Much of the range, which comprises tables, chairs, cabinets, desks, bookcases and bedroom furniture, takes its cues from the Chippendale, Sheraton and Victorian furniture styles.
Handcrafted cabinetry is highly sought-after, especially if it's made with the same meticulous attention to detail employed by cabinetmakers centuries ago. In a world dominated by mass production, the time and skill invested in each piece make it a precious commodity for generations to come.
Stephen creates detailing such as rose inlays that are made from fine veneers of different colours and textures. Attractive mouldings are a feature on other pieces.
"Many of my designs were collected on my extensive tour of 60 to 70 of Britain's finest homes, castle and museums," says Stephen Laurie.
"I also worked with one of England's most prominent master carvers to produce architectural decoration for stately homes and churches throughout Britain."
