Bolliwood (Ponsonby) is the most popular Indian restaurant located in Ponsonby.
Indian food is a fabulous combination of rich creamy curries with fluffy rice and tasty breads. The cuisine is as varied as India's vast terrain and its people. This is complemented by chutney and pickle dishes which are the perfect and indispensable accompaniments to the meal.
To most, Indian food means a hot chilli base curries, but this is a great misconception. Generally, the Northern dishes are mild and creamy e.g. Butter Chicken, Kormas and Tandoori meals which are ideal for the first time Indian experience or for children.
The Southern dishes come from the hotter parts of India, where the dishes are chili based and have heavier spicing, as they were originally used to preserve food in the hot climate. Southern dishes include the perspirational Vindaloos and the Madras curries.

My rating would have been higher(may be 5) if I did not tell them that I have purchased grabone voucher before dine-in. This was 6th time I was doing dine-in there. I really liked their curries. Very Tasty food. But last week I purchased grabone voucher and told them before placing order that we have a grabone voucher And they served small quantity of curries(normally they serve large bowls) and food was also not good. I took my friends over there because I had good experience but it was really disappointing. They did not mention anything in deal about it at all.

Food was good, but they wouldn't honour a gift voucher that we had received directly from them. Before the meal we discussed it with the assistant manager who said that the voucher was fine to use. After the meal, they said that we couldn't use the voucher and that we had to pay full price.

Always great food here - I had the Onion Bhaji for an appetiser, followed by a medium Butter Chicken. Both were excellent. The service was good, apart from a minor mixup with one order - but they rectified the error very quickly. Handy hint - don't try and park out front, you're better off leaving Ponsonby Road and parking for free in one of the side streets.

I had booked 12 seats three days in advance. However when we arrived no table/seats had been arranged for 12 people and there was confusion amongst the staff regarding this. Had to wait for them to arrange seats. Ordered the tandoori chicken which was not heated properly. The curries/rice was also not heated properly and was cold within minutes. You would think they would make the curries fresh considering the high prices - around $18.90. Very Disappointing!!!!!!

Disappointing. Curries were average and short on meat. I guess their mid-week specials are cheap for a reason. Our waiter was loud and constantly in your face.

Feel like a curry but sick of the ordinary curry experience. Thenj Bollywood is the place for you. They have an array of dishes and the staff are more then happy to recommend and inform of the different tastes. The dishes are all made to order as well and you can choose from mild- to fire buring hot! The curries are creamy and my tastebuds loved all the different flavours. Try the melt in your mouth lamb korma and the teh tandoori platter. Delicious!

I love this place. I have eaten in twice and had take out a number of times. Parking can be a little difficult on Ponsonby road but there is parking down a side road. I love the mango chicken, the best I have had anywhere. On weeknights (Mon-Wed only) they do a $10.00 take away curry with rice and I have had this quite a bit. When dining in. I have never found the restaurant busy, there is always a table, great for those last minute decisions to find somewhere to eat. They have a large white wall that they project Bollywood movies onto and with the soundtrack playing it creates a great atmosphere. I would recommend this to anybody who fancies a delicious curry!

This place is awesome, great food but even better atmosphere with the bollywood music videos they project onto the giant rear wall...It's BYO so is a great place to let rip with friends and kick off a night in Ponsonby. Whatever you do don't just order a butter chicken- go for something different like their King Prawn Malabari.

Yum! I love Bolliwood, their Rogan Josh is my favourite. Great place to take a group. The Bolliwood movies playing on the big screen make for great entertainment. I often bring my out of town friends here.
