I'm usually very wary of dentists and find a visit a bit traumatic - I really don't like pain, or being so vulnerable.
The dentist was careful and cheerful and friendly, and made certain that I wasn't going to suffer at all. It was actually a positive and pain-free experience even though I had a tooth pulled out!
It was my first time visiting Dr Matheson, but now I consider him "my" dentist.

You might want a consultation if you need to make a decision about what type of further treatment to have. An examination may have to take place if the dentist needs to see your teeth.

We might also take x-rays in order to diagnose.
- Fillings. Composite fillings are white, and come in several shades to match your tooth colour. Amalgam fillings are a mixture of several materials including silver and mercury.
- Root canal fillings. If the nerve inside a tooth is infected (abcessed), it can cause severe pain and will need to be removed, and the space filled in.
- Extractions. Pulling out teeth is still necessary in some situations. If a tooth is beyond repair, or so deeply infected that it will continue to cause pain after all possible treatment
- Crowns and bridges. A crown usually accompanies some other treatment, such as a root canal filling, when it may need extra strength to compensate for the slight weakening effect of tooth material being replaced with synthetic filling material. Bridges are closely related to crowns, but they are constructed to 'bridge' the gap where there is a single missing tooth.
- Bleaching or teeth whitening. This is a cosmetic treatment to restore whiteness to stained teeth, and is much more effective than using a 'whitening toothpaste'
- Dentures. Dentures come in all shapes and sizes, from a full set to a single tooth.
