Muritai Manor is a charming Edwardian villa, built in 1903, with expansive sea and mountain views. This one-time family home has spacious rooms, high ceilings, gleaming native timber floors and fine kauri fireplaces. Renovated in 1997, the four in-house guest bedrooms retain the ambience of yesterday while having modern facilities including en suite bathrooms. The Garden Room (with en suite) is nestled among shrubs and trees.
You will wake to the smell of coffee and a delicious breakfast which may include fresh eggs from our own free range hens, bacon, local bratwurst sausages, blueberry pancakes, homemade bread, and in summer: luscious Nelson berry-fruits. In the heat of the summer, tangy sea breezes cool the house; on cold winter evenings, guests can enjoy a convivial glass of wine by a roaring fire.
Set in a semi-rural location, Muritai Manor is only a few minutes drive from the city centre, renowned for its eclectic Saturday Market, buzzing café bars, restaurants and funky art galleries.
Guests enjoy memorable views across the sparkling waters of Nelson Haven, to the Boulder Bank and beyond to Tasman Bay with its backdrop of mountains. Muritai Manor Bed & Breakfast is conveniently located within reach of three National Parks and there are many things to do in this spectacular location: hiking, horse riding, sea kayaking, fishing and sailing and discovering art galleries and local wineries.
At Muritai Manor, you will return to a simpler era of splendid solid homes built from native timbers and surrounded with sprawling gardens full of oak trees, roses and camellias; as well as native trees such as the raffish New Zealand cabbage tree. At the end of your busy day, you can relax in the spa pool or cool off in the solar-heated swimming pool.
You will receive a very warm welcome to this Qualmark 4 star plus property from your hosts Alex and Julia Hunter, who are happy to help you plan and arrange activities in and around Nelson.
