21st November 2009 Our group of five had a delightful eating experience at Speights Ale House in Petone. Bearing in mind it is a pub and contrary to the above review we had excellent service. Upon arrival we were greeted by the manager who made sure we were well looked after for the evening. The restaurant was full and was a bit noisy but it added to an exciting Friday night atmosphere. Our drinks order was taken at the table and arrived within minutes. Our waitress was professional and pleasant. The meals were great. Fish of the day was tasty and tender served with crunchy potatoes. The chicken parcels were also delicious - very tasty. All meals presented in an attractive manner. All in all a very tasty meal in very friendly and lively surroundings. Good pub fare and good prices. I will certainly return.

7th July 2008 The service was terrible, we were never asked if we wanted drinks so had to go to the bar to get them. I ordered the pork ribs which on the menu said they had bbq sauce on them, but they came out with tomato salsa and when i asked the waitress she said oh yeh i think the menu has changed, we had no salt or pepper on our table, no wine list, no water, and our food took over an hour to get, we left with only eating a bite then went to KFC it was that bad. My Husband got the spag bol, which was suppose to have a tomato sauce it tasted like crap and the meatballs were hard and nothing else in them but mince. Oh yeh and the menu we got was for the speights ale house in Dunedin which might explain why the menu was different to what we actually got. DO NOT go here its terribe!!!!!
