Terrific place to stop on the way back from North Island road trip. Stopped for a few hours on a hot summer evening and sat on the deck with locals and owner. Had a few drinks while kids played under the large trees. Great hospitaility, terrific music, great converstaion and a nice relaxing evening to finish off our holiday. Will be back and recommend this stop midway between Napier and Taupo to all wary travellers.

Shame on Tarawera Tavern for charging extortinate prices for fuel because we were desperate. $5.50 per litre is 3.5 times more than the going rate of $1.60 per litre for diesel. The you either want it or you dont attitude was rather arrogant. Thats really taking advantage of the weary traveller in need. I certainly will be steering my clients away from you guys!

Tarawera Tavern back to the wilderness. Have travelled the Taupo Rd for many years now stopping at both the Tarawera and the Kiosk. (The last couple of years the Kiosk has had a change of owner and if the place is open you can get both a cold drink and a cold welcome.) The Tarawera Tavern staff have always been friendly and you will get a smile with a great service. Good off road parking, big shade tree for those very hot days. A groupe of us guys are on our bikes and will be there for food and drink today. THANKYOU TARAWERA TAVERN FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY. joe55
