4th June 2014 With regard to the following review. The previous Guest had a cat as a pet. While the room was cleaned correctly after this guest, fleas had invaded after the clean, causing the mentioned VERY unfortunate situation. The managers are EXTREMELY sorry for the incident and have sent a voucher for a free stay with Blue Heron, in our best room ($129/night). This has never happened before at Blue Heron and while we are pet friendly, we always do our best to mitigate it with thorough cleaning and prevention measures.

3rd June 2014 Very disappointed with our experience at this holiday park, we were walk in's and rented a cabin. We were there for literally no more than ten minutes before I realised I had 7 fleas on my arms, I got them off me along with another 5. My partner couldn't believe they all could have been from the motel but started looking at the carpet and spotting dozens, it was evident that the room was covered with them. While looking slightly closer we noticed crumbs on the floor from previous people and the bench had dirt on it. We went to the owners and told them we were going to leave and wanting our money back as there were fleas in the cabin. He tried to convince us to take another room as an alternative to leaving but we declined, he didn't seem to happy about this, then wanted to know why we didn't want to accept another room. When I explained my reasons, he came up with negative remarks including swearing. He came up to the cabin and didn't seem very interested in the problem saying things like "it is a pet friendly motel", we showed him the flees anyway. He then continued to try to bully us into another room, saying things like " I hope your eftpos payment goes through" and taking my license numbers when my payment had already been originally accepted.... In the end we got our refund and he tried to turn around and be nice as we were leaving telling us he hoped we would try them out again. I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VERY DIGUSTED.! Worst place we have stayed so far.

We found the team at Blue Heron very friendly, welcoming and obliging. It is a super spot, right by the water. The grounds being kept immaculately and the ablution block is clean. Great exposure to both the morning and afternoon sun from our site! Perfectly positioned for exploring the rest of the Whangarei Penisular. Informative and comprehensive Information is supplied on check-in of places to visit and activities in the area. We will be back to stay and do some more of those!

23rd February 2012 Came for one week and ended up staying three! Fantastic. Stayed in a charming little cottage with own deck and bathroom and a great view of the harbour. We decided to use Blue Heron as a base to explore the top the north island as the distances arent huge and our cottage was so cute. Were made to feel most welcome by the owners. Their list of 25 things to see and do is brilliant. Highly recommended.

22nd February 2012 disappointing;;; fridge had mould in the ice tray due to the FACT that it WAS on but NOT working, obviously out of gas, this was denied by manager. bed was next to wall so unfortunate person on that side had to clamber over the other to go to the loo, I ended up sleeping on uncomfortable couch. no room for reading lamp, we were told 'read in lounge'!! u would think milk might be provided for the $149 p.n. as in comparable holiday spots, but were told it had to be purchased, this was also later denied. a pleasant enough place tho swimming not very nice due to stony beach.

25th January 2012 Very happy. Stayed for 5 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. A beautiful small campground in a great location to explore many nearby attractions. Can launch your kayak from here! Nice family atmosphere during the day and very quiet at night.

27th August 2011 The Blue Heron is a rare gem. Fantastic location right on the water, best ablution block I've seen. Free wifi makes a welcome change and the password was really funny. Hosts are amazing, really helpful and funny.

16th February 2011 Very disappointed. We booked ahead for two nights camping. When the weather turned out to be extreme with floods and warnings not to camp we phoned the camp ground and were told we would get our money back. Later we were phoned back to say we wouldn't as that was their policy.
Awesome location and very wellcoming of well behaved dogs. Will definately visit again
