3rd May 2008 We absolutely loved Whaea Shirley-anne. She had a wonderful ability to bring people together and she was great at demonstrating Maori values like Whakawhanaungatanga (Relationships) and Manaakitanga (Embracing). She had an amazing ability as well to extend compassion to all cultures in any circumstance.
Unfortunately we could not afford to continue our children there and the lack of values in a Maori context.
We would reccomend the Pre-school consider their staff receive PD Training to develop their Te Reo Maori and employ a fluent speaker of Maori to continue the billingual element of their centre.
Other than the comments above, we wish the staff, families and children all the best in the pursuit of excellence in education in Montessori. It certainly is an extrodinary method of teaching that I have personally adopted in my own teaching.
