6th April 2014 WORST WEDDING VENUE EVER
I should have listened to other peoples negative reviews, but this venue holds sentimental value from childhood and I hoped for the best.
I got the worst. Having many years' experience partnering with various venues to co-ordinate corporate events and two weddings, with attendance levels up to 1500 I am in a good position to critique McHugh's lack of service as follows:
Throughout the process I have never been made to feel like a supplier is doing me a favour. The arrogance, lack of communication, no acknowledgement of email messages was atrocious. In one instance when followed through with a phone call 4 days after an email was sent- I was told the venue was "too busy and still getting over the weekend". This is the last thing a bride wants to hear a few days prior to her wedding.
When I did manage to confirm a meeting time to finalise requirements - the venue manager was multi-tasking setting up the venue.
Venue staff confusion on the day leading to bridal party being interrupted several unnecessary times during the reception.
On the day, the venue manager acted unaware there was a request for 'nut free' as guests including myself have allergies - even though this detail had been confirmed verbally and in writing. This could have resulted in a medical emergency to treat anaphylatix shock.
Not enough staff - 1 bar staff for 100 guests, table skirts kept falling off due to lack of attention, no-one to cut carvery meat.
No care taken packing down Flowers, Table Props and remaining wedding cake. Cake was damaged. Remaining favour boxes had been thrown away. And unbelievably the next day on collection, we found the venue left my props and flowers in the glaring sun without any water on top of McHugh's stench ridden garbage bins. Our flowers, which we intended to give away to family and friends, were ruined.
The only redeeming feature is the location. For $65 wedding menu the food is average.

7th April 2008 This restaurant deserves 0 stars. When finalising a booking for a winter wedding to be held at Duders this year the owner renegged on a fee confirmed by his managers arguing in the most unprofessional manner that the fees had increased by $15 per head + extortionate room hireage. He also referred to the website saying the fees were on there, however there are no specific fees that relate to Mar 08 pricing. I will be taking this up with the consumer institute. And after 30 years of dining at this venue I will never set foot in the place!
