27th March 2013 If we hadn't prepaid this old VW T2? VAN#9 from Germany and weren't forced pick it up off-site, we would have never accepted it. Why?
Summary: What wasn't loose or broken, was either rotten, corroded or dirty.
Example: Car wasn't cleaned at pickup. Water e.g. for the screen washer was empty. Gasoline was low - and its meter showed fiction depending on inclination. 2nd Battery was low and proved later to be defect, so neither lights nor fridge were usable until we replaced the following days fuses, cables and fuse-holder. Left side mirror useless. 1st, 2nd and rear-gear got in only with luck or brute force. No servo-steering. Dishes like in Kindergarten, no glasses. Toy torch.
Electrical installation beyond minimum security standards (Open connectors, taped cabling). Worn-out rain wipers. Low tyre profile.
Comfort? disgusting seat covers; worn-out dirty matraces; lower bed too tight to sleep fro 2 adults below directly over the stinking engine cover, upper bed only for a non-claustrophobic fakir. After 2 sleepless nights we switched to cabins/hotel. All furniture in DIYS style: old, worn-out.
Annoying: Low headroom under exhaust, Radio with flashing lights even switched off.
The only good thing was the thirsty Subaru engine - if it wouldn't have been so loud. So it made no sence to start the DVD Radio.
All in all we had a wonderful trip through beautiful NZ-Landscapes with a very expensive VAN that we preferred to use as normal car with picknick facility only.
We where happy to reach Auckland and returned it earlier than planned.
Support from Bevan by phone and mail was always friendly but in the end 1000 km away from his base we had to manage all the hazzles on our own. Eventually we received a refund of 200 NZD for the annoyances - but our trouble and loosing several precious holidays days is not compensable.
If you plan to book here, don't book online, dont pay in advance and don't accept it unless it is in a state that you can accept.
