23rd January 2008 AMAZING!! i can't believe every item of the food is designed and handmade all by the owners!absolutley gorgeous! all healthy and all delicious! just because it looks unique and a bit upmarket, perhaps, for timaru or maybe you think the price is a bit high, believe me.. its worth every cent! and really, for the great, fresh ingredients they use, you're getting great value!
everything from spicy to sweet, vegetarian to meaty, awesome brekkies and beautiful coffee. this place has it all, plus a cosy and friendly indoor environment as well as outdoor seating for those lovely, sunny, south canterbury days. Another service which is becoming extemely popular is the amazing catering debs and paul (owners) do. wonderfully unique food with delectible ingredients and flavours and great value! may repeat customers and passing on of good word, and not a single complaint so far! as well as a large range of herbal teas, pastas, oils, dip mixes, cheeses, -among many things- debs and paul have created a delicious range of pukeko's own dressings, infused oils, chutneys and wicked pestos! anything you love, debs and paul can make it better than you could ever have imagined it could taste! this is no "talk-up", it's really the truth! So if you're looking for seriously good and different food in Timaru, pukekos is the place to go! and look out for Deb's long-awaited cookbook- a project that many, many people, friends and strangers, have suggested and begged for. nobody can capture flavour and put different tastes together so well as Deb. It's gonna be a HIT! happy eating everyone =)
11th July 2010 While the food was very tasty, I was most disappointed to find that food called Gluten Free was in fact only wheat-free and as as Coeliac I depend on cafe owners to know what they are talking about. I had eaten the "gluten-free" toast and found it so tasty I asked where it was sourced. It was then I discovered that the bread was only wheat-free. I have suffered as a result of this encounter and am in no hurry to repeat it!
