22nd March 2013 Well, I read these reviews when I knew I was going to Star Thai. I prepared myself for a bad experience, stayed away from chicken/seafood in case the place was dirty. Two of us arrived late and we hadn't booked, so needed to be fitted in to a smaller table. First impression was how pretty the long deep blue thai uniform was on the petite staff, and how accommodating and polite the staff were as they quickly got extra chairs and settings organised. I get the Tom Yam comments about the dry lemongrass and herbs, but I think they were there for flavour, not eating. Our meals were lovely, my 10 year old loved it, and they shifted us to a bigger table really quickly. Place was full, I recommend this restaurant. With a 25% discount from entertainment book, the price was okay.
31st July 2014 Reading most of the reviews confirms my horrendous experience that I had last night. Absolutely shocking and negative. Felt insulted and humiliated. Do not recommend anyone to go there.
In a nutshell- if you purchase a voucher, prepare to be insulted. And I mean insulted good!
If you have a baby, prepare to be insulted even more.
The head waitress's ( mentioned several times in many reviews) attitude was utterly horrific and shocking. I was rudely asked( in a loud tone) why I hadnt booked if I had a voucher (considering there were only two other tables filled). I apologied and asked if I should leave if we didnt book to which I was rudely advised" its fine for this time" with a frown!
I started to place my order and I was asked to show my voucher before? I politely asked how that mattered as I would pay nevertheless to which I was rudely advised again- "You have to purchase the voucher before you can order". I kept waiting for more than 20 minutes till my husband finally had to call the waiter to ask for a drink. The way the head waiteress spoke to us was humiliating and downright degrading. You go to a restaurant to unwind and relax, not to be insulted and talked down to.
My baby was playing near the aquarium as she wanted to see the fish which was a big problem again. I was rudely advised- "she cant go into the kitchen". I apologised to her if my baby was causing inconvinience.
Bad vibes and negative attitude, I ended up leaving the restaurant without eating anything. Very rude waiteress.
Oh well, they lost a customer and many more! I have a ton of friends who I have advised about the same. Dont recommend this to anyone.
I hope this feedback is taken on in a constructive manner to help improve the service of your restaurant.

30th June 2013 Average food. Terrible service. Expensive. Tacky decor.
We requested one of the dishes as mild and to not include mushrooms - so they served it very hot with chopped mushrooms throughout. After advising them of the mix up the waitress proceeded to argue with the group for several minutes making the whole experience unnecessarily awkward. When the re-made dish arrived... again there were mushrooms! Ridiculously terrible service and the food was average and not fresh.
There are definitely much better Thai options in Ponsonby where you will pay less, be treated better and eat much tastier food. Avoid this place at all cost.

30th January 2013 Chose this place for my birthday!!!never even had in my life such a horrible thai food and management!!!We ordered tom yam for starter which was full of dry lemon grass and dry herbs , we could not even chew it !!! And two overcooked prawns!!! For our main course we ordered snapper (which was the best dish in their menu) and curry. Curry was ok, not the best one I would say plain flavor and overprised!Snapper was so dry and overcooked , it was not chewable at all!I brought a cake with me and without any reasons it was served while all of us still had main course!!That was very strange! Moreover on our arrival the manager met us in trainers!!!!hows that sound!!Exiting!!! Star thai and manager in trainers!!!! Never ever again!!!!

27th November 2012 AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS! Probably one of the worst dining experiences in my life. The food was absolutely aweful, none of it was fresh, it looked and tasted days old, dirty plates/cutlery and disorganized staff. Probably the worst of it all was the service, they were rude, obnoxious and arrogant. So much so that it I was actually shocked as to how rude they were. As I said, avoid this restaurant.
