22nd March 2011 Good to see the 'family' back and running the show. The best Turkish breakfast in town. Good coffee, very slick service. Never mind the garden supplies - just come for the coffee!
23rd April 2016 Unfortunately this is the first time I have been compelled to complain about a meal. I ordered pancakes for my daughter and the Satay beef open sandwich for myself. We were extremely disappointed with several things; (1) the very long wait (approximately 30 minutes) for the food to be served when the cafe was less than half full and most people were ordering hot drinks and cakes from the cabinet. (2) There were only 2 small "pancakes", and they were very thick and therefore more like hotcakes. The pancakes were very dry and there was little maple syrup on the plate (and none served separately) to make them easier to eat. My daughter forced herself to eat them because she was hungry. (3) The waiter delivered a BLAT instead of my order and said they had run out of the Satay beef! I was incredulous that they didn't inform me straight after ordering and give me the option to choose something else! The waiter muttered something about sending over the manager, but he didn't arrive and I had to ask to see him when we were ready to leave. The manager didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with what had happened, and just kept saying he had been busy, so had been unaware of the situation. He also said there was only one chef on duty and the cafe was busy, so that's why the food took so long. When I said that I would never return, he just shrugged and said that was my decision. Only towards the end, did he offer some other food, like a piece of cake, which I declined.
One last comment - the wooden floor seems unstable because it felt like a minor earthquake whenever someone walked past our table.

23rd September 2013 I have eaten at the Orakei Kings Garden Cafe for many years and so it was a natural choice for my family to take me out to breakfast on Father's Day. The experience was surprisingly disappointing. To date, neither the Manager of the Garden Centre, or Kings General Manager or the cafe itself have acknowledged my email describing our experience. Here is what I wrote. -Were they having an exceptionally bad morning or were we very unlucky?)
Here is a summary of our experience:
oMy soy latte arrived 45 minutes late.. I had to ask three different waiters for it before it finally appeared.
oMy partner's flat white was very weak and milky
oThe two omelettes looked good but they were both dry and flavourless
oMy chicken liver dish had plenty of liver but it was in the form of a stew on a slice of sodden bread, with small pieces of bacon, in a cream sauce. Consequently, the liver was over-cooked with no perceptible chicken liver flavour.
oThe scone was very sweet; its texture was bread-like and it seemed flavoured with orange. Certainly not classical date scone.
